Overwhelmed by knitting

I've done a scarf for ds2 in 1x1 rib, I'm now doing random squares/rectangles to make a random blanket (a good way to practice different stitches).
I've seen some basic baby things I want to knit but just have a brain block when I see the patterns. I can't do it.
I've just started, will it come to me?
Also why can't I get my head around "knitting in the round"?
Is it just me.

I need inspiration! Smile

Grin I may try when I have done my blanket. I'm practicing a new stitch at the moment.

A tank top - if it's child size go for it. If adult, I would hang on a bit, they take a long time and get a bit boring to knit.

To practice a bit more I would suggest trying a hat in the round.

You get a small item that is finished quickly, practice at decreases and patterns/lace/cables if you want them. I started about 3 years ago but knitting in the round only 'clicked' for me a few months ago - now I love it because I hate sewing the edges together. It's just practice.

I'm a new knitter and a few things have helped me.

Someone on here pointed out that actually knitting patterns are very like computer programmes, literally you follow the instructions one by one as they are written, in a logical sequence, all you need to know is the 'programming language' ie what each abbreviation means, they even have loops in the same way. Once you get your head round that it all makes much more sense!

Knitting in the round - really not harder than regular knitting, I am on my first 'in the round' jumper and actually it is much, much easier because you never have to purl, you just go round and round knitting. But I think you probably need someone who is used to doing it just to show you what to do and get you over any wibbles.

For me belonging to a knitting group has made the real difference as once a week I know I will have the chance to ask any questions and sort out any problems. That plus youtube!
