What to do with an armchair

We have a very comfy and useful armchair but the material has not lasted well, it was a suede/velvet affair from Next and is badly worn. I'd like to cover it as we can't afford a replacement and throws just don't work.

How easy would it be to make a loose cover? And can I get a pattern online?

Thank you

Hmn. Don't know really. But I do know you can buy them! La Redoute is one place I know you can get them but it will depend on the shape of your chair. I have just found [http://www.coatscrafts.co.uk/Sewing/Projects/armchair_cover.htm this] here.

coats and crafts have a free pattern PDF to give you some inspiration here.

I made a loose cover years ago for an armchair with no pattern, I made it with some calico cotton. Just the cheap stuff. Then once I'd got it right [roughly] I then used nicer fabric, using the calico as a pattern.

You can buy upholstery fabric that's really quite sturdy. Find a good fabric store. I bought mine from Calico's in Bedminster. I made sure the area's that are well worn on the old chair were re-inforced, just used a thick corduroy underneath.

The covers on my old armchair were non removable. But if they were removable I think I'd do a stylish patch in a nice contrasting fabric. Or use it as a template to make a new cover.

Many moons ago my dad re-covered our three piece suite by removing the old fabric and using the pieces as a pattern.
