After years and years of waiting..... Choosing my forever sewing machine (Pfaff?)

In a few months I hit the BIG 40 - DH would like to buy me a new sewing machine.

This will replace my old machine, bought by my DM for my 13th birthday which works okay but is not up to the demands I put on it (my 11yo DD will be delighted to inherit it though). I want the machine to last me for decades, and for me to grow into it.

The machine will be used for general dressmaking, household bits and bobs and I am really getting into quilting. I also am a serious knitter and love to mix sewing with knitting - backing hand knitted blankets, quilting them etc.. Because of this mix of fabric types I have narrowed my brand down to the Pfaff (the other advantage of this is our local store supplies and services these machines so good aftercare). The idt system really seems to handle the knitted fabric well.

So... Eventually got into the sewing shop - bliss! Had a really good play with the machines (though DH was not sure I needed such a good machine). Got home with some samples, and he was very impressed - to the point he suggests I consider looking at the creative embroidery range (at this point I suggested he lie down).

So lovely ladies, do any of you own a pfaff embroidery machine? Or embroidery machines of any other brands? Would I be mad to spend that sort of money (£2499 plus software)?

I do suspect an alterior motive on his part (business use for the embroidery option putting our logo on various things we use that often go missing within the trade).....

If it does have a business use can you buy it through the business and get the VAT back? 20% saving?

Oh and either way not mad at all! Go for it!!!

I can't advise but I doubt you would ever regret buying the expensive one whereas you may regret not buying it :)

Thank you ladies......

I just need a bit of reassurance I am not mad, as it is a lot of money to be spent on me (expecting DC #5 and used to all money going on kids). Wink
