The perils of knitting for dc!

Just finished a jumper for ds. It's in the yarn he chose, it's lovely and snuggly. Will he wear it? You guess! He did try it on for fifteen seconds so I guess that's something. Think someone might be getting a nice birthday gift!

I've given up buying anything made of wool for my 2 - or knitted from anything really. THey seem to be hypersensitive - I can't bear the "it's itchy" whines even from the softest yarn. In fact I've just taken a stash of lovely jumpers etc to the charity shop as they refuse to wear them (my Mum knits for them - well she used to). Such a shame.

How old is your DS? (My DD1 is 5). DO you think this will improve with age?

He's four and has just entered a very fussy phase where clothes are concerned. Hoping it will pass. I started this jumper before he became so particular. Hey ho! Glad I'm not alone.

My two will wear it if they have chosen the yarn and the pattern. To be honest my problem has always been finishing the work before they have grown out of it! Also they never wear a jumper next to the skin - our house is too cold for that! they always have a long-sleeved top underneath. When they were little it would by a cotton polo neck but they seem to have rebelled against looking like a sixties spy/the Milk Tray Man so now it's a "base layer" [passes for fashionable round these parts...!]

I don't want to hear about this! My main knitting projects are all cardigans for my DD who will be two on Thursday.

Wails at the thought of a cardigan free future....

My poor ds has chosen the yarn and pattern and keeps reminding me to get on with it, but it keeps getting put down because of time-bound projects (new babies, Woolly Hugs, etc).

Girls (in my experience of one plus a baby) are less fussy bizarrely. Ds and my two dn's are very comfort focussed. You should be fine!

Fair isle!

Gosh-the face was meant to be a bit sad for the beautiful knitting that dd not wanting to wear. Majorly impressed by all fair isle or intarsia knitting. Sorry if it came across wrong-I'm struggling with the new style emoticons!

Put a cotton layer under it?
I'm still at the stage of struggling to make anything worth wearing! Tried a gorgeous hat. Hmmmm. Too many colours. Too tight. Epic fail!

Yes, I think Mole must be on the app where the faces look basically nothing like they do on the actual website, leading to confusion. On the web Mole's comment comes across as 'fair isle? As if. Two colour stripes are NOT the same as fairisle' (god knows what that smiley looks like on the app).

This is why I like making blankets-they have long life and are rarely rejected. Although now, contrary little monkey, ds has decided he likes his jumper. He now wants a light blue one. He can wait a while.

Just popped over to web version-I must have been upsetting people every time I've used an emoticon recently! This is a slight hijack but indulge me while I put in some emoticons as a bit of a test.

Why the green heart? Would do raised eyebrow emoticon but won't go well!

GOD knows. Why would a green heart mean the same thing as the 'envy' face (which occasionally does sterling work as the 'puke' face as well)? Sceptical means sad and confused means angry ... perhaps it's a grand social experiment aimed at reminding us of the virtues of a simpler time where people relied on actual words to convey their meanings!

I've just knitted a lovely pair of little kitty leg warmers, so they won't feel itchy as little missy is going to wear them over her leggings - smug - no - she said they are not long enough - she wants them to go right up to the top of her legs ! Grrrrrrrrrrrr !!!!! or

I believe it's karma in my case. Just recalling that my mum said that she once spent ages making a wedding dress for my doll and my comment was that the veil wasn't long enough!
