knitting pattern like Boden 'Everyday cardigan"???

Hello knitters! Just wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a pattern for a cardi like this Boden girls "Everyday cardigan", I have discovered that my MIL is a great knitter and I would love her to knit something similar for my 3 yr old DD!!! Thank you ladies!

The place to look for patterns is Ravelry. You don't need to join to search, but I'll have a look now and see if I can narrow it down.

It is absolutely lovely - honestly. I don't think I would do it in Malabrigo like the one in the pattern - I'd want something that I thought could be hurled in the washing machine as required. (I've done mine just as a test of the pattern in the Sirdar Bonus comes-in-a-ball-bigger-than-your-head. In the rose colour shown in the link).

I am getting a bit lost on Ravelry Tribpot!!! So many beautiful patterns!!! I found this cardigan and thought that with plain sleeves it could look pretty similar to this gorgeous Boden cosy cable cardigan! I like the mustard colour too!!! :)

Yes, this is the siren call of Ravelry, there are gazillions of fantastic patterns, your mum can really just pick whatever she fancies. The cable one is gorgeous as well. Unlike many patterns on Ravelry, it's not available to buy online through the site, your mum would need to get a copy of the book (although obviously this is not a massive challenge ).

In terms of the amount of yarn needed, most patterns give a (generous) estimate as to the total length required - so the Three Flavor needs 347 - 786 m depending on what size you do. Like many online yarn shops, Deramores list the total yarn length of the ball, so you can see that the giganta-ball has 840m of yarn, more than enough to do the smallest size - indeed enough to do two!

I'd be tempted to go for a solid, pure wool aran - like Rowan pure wool (although the colours are perhaps a little dark for a child's cardigan?) or Creative Focus. We do a lot of knitting for Woolly Hugs with the slightly thinner equivalent of this Cashmerino Aran - it will be super-soft and gorgeous but possibly not hardwearing enough. Cygnet is a great brand as well.

No, that's the double knitting weight yarn, bit thin for the Three Flavor, although your mum could knit a bigger size (as it will come out smaller if knit in a thinner yarn, if you see what I mean). It's this one and I must say the colours look a lot clearer on the Rowan website. Love the forest green.

The Contemporary Irish knits book is £6.80 on Amazon so not too expensive for such a gorgeous pattern!!!

I had a look at the rest of the patterns in the book and they are lovely.

I'd thought about the Rowan Tweed Aran for something I'm planning to knit for my DH. Very suited to the fab Irish patterns.

Hmmmmmm, the pattern has chest measurements for the sizing, do I measure right the way around on the chest under her arms?

Yes - the pattern recommends then choosing a size which is about 2 cm bigger, although the sample on the little girl in the photo is 5cm bigger and it looks great, plus room to grow. As the second size is aimed at age 4, that's probably the one to go for unless your dd is petite.

I wouldn't have picked up on that positive ease thingy, thank you for pointing it out, I thought a size 4 too!

Oh I should give an honourable mention to the King Cole Merino Blend Aran as well - it is an 'anti-tickle' yarn, amusingly.

I like the fern!!! Am pinning all these wool suggestions on Pinterest BTW!!!! I can't decide what colour to do that irish cardi in, I think It might look so striking because of the beautiful burnt orange...but not sure if it would suit my DD, she's quite fair!

Aw... you should have let him have bright red - you would never lose him in a crowd :)
