I am dithering....again! Should I? Should I not?

Not sure if Ebay is the right place for me to go, opinions would be much appreciated please.

I've never sold on there, but bought quite a bit and would always go for Folksy over ebay for handmade stuff. Not sure if that helps!

Dingle · 29/11/2012 17:15

I feel that if I had more outlets, I'd have more cause to craft and therefor be more creative. Hmm

I sell on both etsy and folksy and only on ebay in Nov / Dec.

On etsy and folksy people are prepared to pay a 'proper' amount for a handcrafted item, plus you have groups and forums for support.

Ebay fees are a lot higher and you compete with listings from .99p plus the mindset on ebay is to get a bargain.
Last year I had a listing on ebay for a fabric heart with an embroidered name, someone contacted me and said she wanted six of them but was only prepared to pay a maximum of £1.50 each - I emailed back saying 'OK - thanks for letting me know'. (cheeky mare).

I do, it's not currently my main way of selling though.

My shop's here if you want to have a nosey, I'll happy answer any questions if I can Smile KJCreationsUK

Aww thanks babesdontlie Smile

I set up a Folksy page for my sister, she's a bit of a technophobe. I think it's brilliant and if used properly (I.e new items listed regularly to keep you towards the front of searches) could be a great sales tool.

I have different expectations from suppliers on Folksy to EBay. I expect the Folksy stuff to be good & I'm prepared to pay for it. There's a lot of shit craft on EBay.

A special request, if you are crafting baby items please don't model them on dolls - it's freaky Grin

ohfunnyface · 30/11/2012 08:13

Love folksy! Look on there every day!

Dingle · 30/11/2012 09:06

Thank you for the replies. I may try to get a few things listed and see how they go then. Not sure of what would sell or what to charge though.

I have used Ebay for some of my craft items in the past, listing for only .99p though to avoid fees. I did actually build up a few regular customers at one point. Now I only ever list the odd set of die cuts or vintage style labels, which do seem to sell well for Weddings.

I'd just like to take it one step further and be able have an outlet for some more detailed, time consuming items, that I really can't justify being sold for 99p.

Have a bit of research as to what is on there already and similar items to that which you make- and price accordingly.

If you ever want feedback, post your photos up and I'm sure people will help advise!

Dingle · 30/11/2012 09:37

Thank you. This is my latest little project here and this is an example of some of my work......but I also knit and have recently started felt work too.

I suppose I will just have to bite the bullet and see how it goes. Hmm

I think you are brilliant, give it a go xx

babesdontlie · 30/11/2012 10:34

You should definately put them on folksy (and possibly etsy where you will have a worldwide audience)

The gift tags are gorgeous!

ohfunnyface · 30/11/2012 10:37

They are great!

Do not sell for 99p- sell as sets and then price accordingly- no one would want just one, they're too pretty!

Dingle · 30/11/2012 13:23

I have made up a few little batches of tags to put on to try out the water!Shock

I was thinking of about £2.50 for a batch of 5 medium tags £2 for 6 small. I haven't put a ribbon or twine on them and I would need to charge £1 postage for a 1st class large + jiffy bag.

Please give honest opinions of price or otherwise I will just bung them on Ebay for 99p. Blush

hi everyone! im new on here and was looking for some advice on where to sell my handmade personalised baby blankets and cushions. i came across this post and thought u guys might be able to help :) i have started by making a page on facebook but don't feel that i am reaching a wide enough audience. i have tried on ebay but like everyone is saying, it's just people looking for a bargain :/ if i post a link to my facebook page i hope someone could give me some ideas on the best way to advertise and sell online. thanks in advance! here is the link: www.facebook.com/pages/Sew-what/195859783884641?ref=tn_tnmn

ohfunnyface · 30/11/2012 14:40

I think selling in batches of 6 is best- and for medium £3.50 would be reasonable. Looking on there, that would be a very fair price.

Then £2.50 for the smaller ones? How much smaller are they?

Dingle · 30/11/2012 14:54

OMG, I've gone and done it. I have loaded ONE set! LOL

So excited that I have actually got this far! I charged £2.75 for 5 medium.

The medium are 63 x 38 the small are only 40 x 28 but just as time consuming.
THANK YOU FOR ALL THE HELP & ADVICE.

Was considering FB too sewwot but whichever avenue you choose will surely take time to build.x
