Crocheted coat - is this 'stealthily' difficult?

I need to frog an attempt at a knitted jacket for my daughter which has gone horribly wrong.

She still needs a jacket/cardie and I've found this which I love.

I've done a swatch to get my head around the woven stitch but are there any pitfalls lurking in it? It it going to be horribly difficult? The pattern looks quite easy but I may be missing something major...

Can anyone one glance through it for me?

Hurraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!! :o

Daisybell1 · 24/10/2012 10:40

Hmm, or I did until I saw a comment on ravelry about how the 18 month old size needs 4.5 balls. Argh!

[hshock] That's one hungry stitch pattern!

Daisybell1 · 25/10/2012 09:19

You're telling me!

It's quite heavy and 'clunky' too... The required number of stitches have come out smaller than the pattern measurements so I'm hoping it will relax a bit on blocking. Have you blocked yours? How do I block acrylic???

How's yours coming along? Sleeve section finished here but I'm trying to make myself finish some over WIPs first...

PurplePidjInAPointyHat · 28/10/2012 12:45

I don't block!

I completely screwed up so binned the first attempt. First sleeve of attempt #2 is done, but I'm handing over MrsY's woolly hug on Wednesday so trying to get that finished (7'x5' blanket in need of a picot border!)

Daisybell1 · 29/10/2012 10:05

Nooo! I was relying on you to have done the tricky border first!!

Yeah but this is me, I'll have rewritten it three times before the end!

I was planning a cable border, so:

Join at bottom corner, ch 10 8htr across, sl st to join, sl st in next st up,
2htr 4 fptc 2 htr ch2 turn
2htr 4 bptc 2 htr 2 sl st

Etc...

Am on to the increases after the waist band. It's sooo cute, even if I say so myself!

Pics needed!!

Daisybell1 · 30/10/2012 20:48

I've tried uploading one. It's a bit blurry and it's come out the wrong colour - it's more of a dusky rose colour.

Very cool. Are you going to attempt a cable front? [hwink]

Daisybell1 · 31/10/2012 14:56

Not sure...

I'm tempted to try the one in pattern and see how I get on.... I might do it in white though and do the embroidery in pink if it looks like I'm running out of yarn.

PurplePidjin · 02/11/2012 08:31

I'm working my way down the body...

I'll probably skip the increases as a 6mo is more likely to spend his time flat on his back... Don't they?

Daisybell1 · 02/11/2012 11:25

Mine was sitting by then but refused to roll over so was immobile. But I don't think you need all the flares as they're fairly cylindrical...

OP posts:
PurplePidjin · 02/11/2012 14:00

Well i got most of the way down the body a knitting group this morning, just need to measure up and either carry on or start the border :o

It's coming up as a 20" chest, looks big for a 6mo?

How's yours doing?

Daisybell1 · 03/11/2012 14:53

You're way ahead of me, I've had an enforced break to finish some slippers and start a hat (which I've frogged 3 times already) but am ploughing down the back when I get a chance. Dd is 19 inches around the chest but is a skinny whippet who still wears 3-6 month tops, so 20 inches sounds about right...

I found the most beautiful cable owl pattern, managed it in a bazillion attempts, then realised it's the wrong way up Angry

However I've decided i want the owls (and therefore button holes) on the other side so will frog, do a plain border round because it'll be underneath, and do top down owls on baby's left instead of right...

Daisybell1 · 03/11/2012 17:51

Wow, cable owls sound amazing!

Still plodding down the back here...

PurplePidjin · 03/11/2012 19:07

They will be if i ever get the bloody things right!!!!!

Daisybell1 · 05/11/2012 13:52

How's it going? Running out of wool here, have started frantically phoning round suppliers to see if they've got an odd skein lying around...

On pause while i catch up with other stuff Blush i now have crib bumpers, a bargain moses basket from a nearly new sale, and all the nappies are categorised and stored (will be using cloth)

I have 2 crochet cardies and a pair of crochet dungarees in need of buttons, a pair of sewn dungarees and two quilts to finish, and a crochet scarg for bil for Christmas. 36+3 and i feel like I'm rapidly running out of time! I'll change my mind at 40+11

Daisybell1 · 05/11/2012 14:21

I'm not sure whether it will be a comfort for you to know that I went to 40+13+23hrs with dd... I got lots done in hospital whilst waiting Grin

OP posts:
PurplePidjin · 05/11/2012 15:30

A friend went to 40+12 and hers was 10lb 15oz Shock no drugs Shock

I'll be pleasantly surprised by anything after hearing that :o

Daisybell1 · 06/11/2012 19:06

Wow, that's major respect!

I've just had to put a plea out on facebook for more yarn Sad
