Policy on swaps and selling

Rachel (mumsnet) · 27/03/2006 22:19

To avoid confusion we thought it a good idea to clarify our swaps and selling policy.

Emails regarding a swap should not contain advertising and email addresses collected for swaps should not be used for advertising purposes. Your privacy is very important to us. We don't and won't ever sell your email address and ask that Members don’t use emails gained through Mumsnet for reasons other than originally intended (eg swap details, communication through Contact Another Talker).
With regard to selling, please don’t advertise, offer to sell or offer to commission work on the discussion board. If you have used or unwanted goods, you can advertise them on the For Sale topic plus there’s the option of advertising on our Small business ads topic for, well, small businesses. We do understand that this topic is helpful to those setting up arts and crafts businesses, but to be consistent across the site and because discussions flow better without advertising, we ask that you use the classified boards for selling purposes.
Many thanks,
Mumsnet Towers.

Sorry, I have just read your reply again and would like to know; What confusion? In what way was someone confused? Sorry if I sound confrontational but the fact that you lovely gals up at MN Towers have posted that you wanted to clear up confusion has me agog Wink

Oh and JM I would use them addresses as they were given to you in an entirely different context by women who make cards/scrapbook who, I would imagine would welcome the chance to buy good quality craft materials.

The fact that you begot (for want of a better word) the addresses/email addresses on here is a little bit immaterial really in my humble opinion. You have had them for ages in a position to make the Arts & Crafts forum flow with more interest & enthusiasm.

Right I will shut up now. COD you may speak.

I think that problems may occur if someone uses email addresses that they have gained through different areas of MN...through swaps, challenges etc...the email addresses are then used to send out blanket emails to everyone in their mailbox, maybe not essentailly trying to tout for business....more "hey look what I am up to" sort of email?????

Some MN members choose not to have the CAT facility but send out their emails when they sign up for swaps etc....some might not like their email addresses being used for "other" purposes IYKWIM???

I know my addy has been used a couple of times when a netters have emailed loads of people about an offer and then I got loads of spam from the company that was highlighted through the email.....doesnt bother me as I just dump it BUT some may not like it.

Lets put this to bed now and carry on as we were, but be mindful of the points raised by Rachel.
