Anyone do Digital Card Making/Scrapbooking?

Hi, I know there's a good few card makers and scrappers on here but do any of you do digital?

Think it would be fun to set challenges on that too, as there's hundreds of freebies to be downloaded - say no to piracy though ;)

I'm also starting a new information site/resource just for card makers if anyone wants to contribute their ideas or designs etc (hope that's not flouting the rules on here).

Look forward to hearing from any budding digi-mums :)

oh, me me! I'm learning to love digi card making and scrapping. I'd love to join in, and share download links.

JayzMummy · 27/03/2006 10:47

Im off to a one day workshop on digi scrapping next month.....love the "real" thing but thought digi might be fun for when I am pushed for time and dont want to make a mess with all my stash!!
Im sure there are other netter carfters who are dabblin in digi too :)

workathomemother · 27/03/2006 11:41

oooh goody :)

I'm a Paint Shop Pro fan, what do you use?

Also, do you just do pure digi or a hybrid...printing off digital products to use in traditional papercrafting?

I haven't had a good look around yet, but are we allowed to post links back to freebie sites on threads?

Just one thing though, and I hope it doesn't offend anyone, but I strongly believe in not sharing the actual products between ourselves as files because this doesn't give the creator any credit...links back to the main sites are great because then the site owner benefits from your signup to their newsletters etc.

Might sound a bit fussy but its just cos these ladies spend hours making this stuff for us, and I think its only fair to 'pay back' by joining up Blush

Can't wait to see who else wants to have a go.

We could even contribute one digi piece each, that we have found or made, that have to be incorporated into a design.

I love this form of crafting, my computer is choc a block now with freebie stuff lol

I'm an elements four girl:)
absolutely with you on not sharing files etc, tho would be nice to share info on free downloads etc, esp as some sites do free stuff for a limited time and then change it.

workathomemother · 27/03/2006 12:32

Not heard of elements four...but will check out.

And yes, freebie info will defo be shared via links because there is just TOO much yummy stuff lol.

Its my job to gather this info so got loads!

Hope we get some more interested though

(Forgive me, but remember there's alway one idiot and it's me today)

Carolinett · 27/03/2006 12:45

Whats digital card making?

workathomemother · 27/03/2006 13:37

Hi Carolinett

Digital card making is where you create cards either:

a) Using your computer totally

You can download (alot for free) gorgeous 'pictures' of papers, embellishments, tags, ribbons, etc and use them in a graphics package (such as Paint Shop Pro) to design a card using your computer. You can also use a software package, such as Card Factory Deluxe to design everything.

You can then print off your cards, send them to somewhere like Vistaprint if you really want, send as an e-card - the green option ;) - as well as post your designs onto forums for ppl to see.

b) Printable Card Making Supplies (this is fab!)

This is where you don't design on screen, but instead print off the papers, tags etc. onto cardstock and use them as you normally would in papercrafting - this is instead of going out and buying them; download and print instantly.

Many people like to make their own papers and elements, for the challenge of creating realistic looking craft supplies :D

Its cheap, its instant (go get supplies NOW yummeeee) and its addictive!

Personally I like to do a mix of both - a bit of digi with printable stuff to embellish with.

I will find a good link for you to see some examples.

Sorry, long post - but it excites me Blush

This is one of my favourite sites:

\link{http://www.shareasale.com/r.cfm?B=36149&U=159516&M=7927\ComputerScrapbook.com}

They do great printables called eCuts which are either printable card making kits, or gorgeous elements/embellishments.

Wish i could paste pics in here cos they are sooo gorgeous Grin

hiya!! love digi crafting :)

I do both all digi and printing off elements etc to use.

UCM · 27/03/2006 16:33

Ummmm, just looked at this and it's all very nice, but the amount of ink used in printing off all of those lovely papers would be colossal, so I don't think I would pay for a digi-download and then spend a fortune on cartridges..... correct me if I am wrong. Also another question, how would you print 12 x 12's on my printer which takes A4 as the biggest paper, as most printers do these days...It does look very very interesting though.

Radley · 27/03/2006 16:44

I agree with what UCM says, my printer cartridges are very expensive as it is so doing digi scrapping would be far more expensive.

I also personally prefer messing about with my stash to get effects, and, knowing my luck, I would have spent hours doing a digi one and then have a powercut and lose the lot Grin

champs · 27/03/2006 21:33

i d/l free digi stuff so no extra cost as i've already got ink/paper etc

Carolinett · 28/03/2006 10:49

Thank you very much for explaning but I afraid like messing with the bits & pieces for handmade cards, don't think I'd be into digi.

champs · 28/03/2006 15:38

Carolinett - :) i love stash stroking too!! (sounds rude BlushGrin)

dramaqueen72 · 01/04/2006 10:10

oh no, its not a case of one or the other, they are very different, but great to do both.
I have a serious amount of digi stash now, which is just as lovely to drool over. thing I like about digi is you can rustle one sweet simple layout up in a short amount of time. and I can do it with the baby on my lap!lol

workathomemother · 06/04/2006 16:09

sorry, I started this thread and abandoned it...not been on here for ages :( too busy with my site!!

Anyway, the point of digital is that you don't HAVE to print anything out if u don't want - play around, make gorgeous layouts and upload to online galleries.

You can get wide format printers for 12x12 but I imagine they are expensive.

Card makers don't have to worry about print sizes though!

Digital products are either FREE (there's LOADS) or very, very cheap - talking a few dollars usually, so converted back down into £££ we are talking peanuts a lot of the time.

The beauty of digi is you can download the perfect papers or tags etc. and embellish with your normal craft stuff like ribbons, brads, glitter, gel pens etc. It's combining the two together which I like.

Workathomemother

You are posting on this site as a commercial venture, which is really rotten as you are trying to come over as a crafty mum, the reason you don't want to share files is because you & the other directors of your company are trying to sell digi scrapping on this site. You are probably a man, don't really care if you are not, but you should pay 50.00 pounds and put an ad on the business site if you want to sell stuff. Since I logged onto your site, I have had sooooo many pop ups that I didn't need or want, so please stop posting or pay for your big corporate services!!!!!!!!!

JayzMummy · 07/04/2006 19:44

I mailed Mumsnet HQ last week about this thread.....so obviously someone touting for business.

UCM · 07/04/2006 20:06

I mailed MN about this too, but never had a response, but am annoyed about the pop ups!
