wet felting or needle felting?

So I fancy trying a new craft and like the idea of felting but I'm not sure which route.
I can knit but not that funny thing with one hook crochet and I realise that needle felting will need new 'kit' and money's a bit tight at the mo.
Which is more versatile? I'd like to make some christmas bits (maybe decorations for the tree) and presents for relatives (usually just tokens) and db and sil are expecting dc1 nxt yr and another db getting married so thinking ahead.
TIA

I've put a picture on my profile of the thing I made at last month's felt group - it is a sort of a pot or vessel, formed round a small, inflatable beachball. It has some angelina bondable fibres felted into it, to give it a bit of sparkliness (the angelina won't felt on its own, but you can fix it down by putting fibres over the top and felting them).

I've put a picture on too. I couldn't resist the local (ish) shop that sells lots of lovely woolly things all sourced from local sheep!

DD1 and I had another go this afternoon at making some flat discs which I'll maybe try needle felting some designs onto, my thought was coasters or tree hangings.

LOVE the 'vessel'
We joke that when artists make a pot out of clay or felt or metal or anything, it is ALWAYS called a 'vessel'...much ARTIER word :)
