I hope you don't mind the gratuitous blog link, but I'm really pleased with this doll I made using DD1's baby clothes.

The facebook link to the fab Chocolate and Ginger bears are made by another Mumsnetter.

Absolutely love the doll DillyTante, especially the very cute face! What a great use for old baby clothes (still have dd's nicest outfits sat in a suitcase - brought them all with us to NZ as I was expecting again, in case we had another girl - but was our 2nd boy, so at least we got to reuse all of ds1's outfits!). I'd love to make one like that for dd - if only I could get my sewing machine to work.... :(

Thanks, I'm pretty chuffed with it.

That's really lovely - great idea. Is the tutorial in the current issue of the magazine? I'd love to give it a go.

DillyTante · 30/08/2012 09:08

No, it's a few months old but you can get the templates here and I could give you some rough instructions if you like.

That is brilliant!

oh I missed out on this inspiration .... what a lovely idea and a lovely doll you have made....it's a treasure.....good for you and thank you for sharing this Smile
My DS is almost 12yrs now and I have only his beautiful hand knitted by granny arran cardi left, along with his first soft shoes, first proper boys shoes and first winter boots....not enough clothing to make a little doll :( ...wish I did though...

Thanks for the replies. I found the jersey difficult to see with. I was wondering, do you think lightly interfacing it would make it easier?

Brilliant, thanks so much. Not sure about your jersey question Blush - still a bit of a sewing novice! Really looking forward to trying it out though.

DillyTante · 30/08/2012 20:14

Thanks :)

Think I will experiment with the interfacing next time.

Love it! I have that magazine issue too, so might try you idea out.

Was it hard to start cutting up the clothes? I'm not sure I'm brave enough (wimp emoticon)

DillyTante · 08/09/2012 19:37

You mean emotionally hard? Not really (though was worried I'd balls it up) as I knew the alternative was they'd hang around in a carrier bag for years and every time we moved I'd say "I must do something with these clothes..."

Did you use a small zigzag stitch when sewing the jersey?

flubba · 08/09/2012 20:43

Looks really lovely Dilly.

I use very short stitches with jersery (which seems illogical to me) but I think your idea of using a light interfacing makes sense, especially if you lay the interfaced side down on the feet so should move it through more easily. Warning: This is not an expert opinion! :o

I'm keeping my kids' clothes for small quilts. Currently got a billion bags of clothes and have it on my To Do In The Very Near Future list. It's actually made it onto my dry-wipe board above my sewing desk! :)

icapturethecastle · 08/09/2012 22:59

Love it will have to make one I made a quilt out of some of mine. It worked really well. I used iron on interfacing as it made it much easier sewing the jersey.
