Help me chose some yarn for this gorgeous knitting pattern

I want to make this: www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/inspira-cowl for my Mum for xmas. However, I just can't decide on a colour scheme.

My mother wears a lot of teal and coral clothing, as well as a lot of neutrals. I can't decide between using a grey yard and lots of different colours or doing it in multicoloured yards.

Any ideas?!

I would do it in a grey/silver for the base colour then a space dyed yarn for the coloured bits - haven't downloaded the pattern but what weight is it worked in?

I may have a little browse of some yarns later if I know what I'm looking for ie Aran weight, Dk, whatever.

I only wish I had the skills for colour work in the round - not got there yet Smile

its aran. in the round is v easy!

The only variegated arans I have seen really are all Noro ones, I have heard they are often full of twiggy bits though.

If you could make it in DK instead I would use something like Artesano Hummingbird DK for the coloured bits as it is now discontinued and available really discounted Grin Like this

Lots of lovely variegated stuff in sock yarn or DK but not so much in the thicker stuff. I have some Hummingbird in the Sunbird colourway and it looks lovely.

Noro Silk Garden has amazing colourways and isn't twiggy at all!

Take a look at Manos del Uruguay Wool Clasica, Malabrigo Merino Worsted too - both come in lovely variegated colourways.

The Noro, Manos and Malabrigo are all aran-weight BTW

James Brett's marble in DK or chunky is often mentioned as a good substitute for Noro. I think it's quite widely available, and cheap!
