I am in the process of knitting a patchwork for my daughter...have got seriously side lined and am waaay behind. I have been making a few little bits and bobs to sell and of course the lovely MN Woolley Hugs take up a little time too. However, I am almost back on track but have lost my 'vision' of what I wanted it to look like.
I have a sage green, a dusky pink, a teal blue and a white cotton yarn...they look fab, some are plain, some are rib, others have flowers or beads sewn onto them. But I do not know when to stop - I want it large but the cost will run well into £100 - £200

What size are your patchwork blankets and please share your ideas if you have pictures. I need a little inspiration??

I have a picture of my patchwork crochet blanket on my profile, my squares were about 5 inches wide, they were all different colours and I edged them all in black. I used odd bits of wool that were lying around and also I would look around the shops for any wool on sale. Also my mum and nan would give me the odd bit of wool. I just had to buy the black.

Not sure how much it cost me to make but It cost me alot in time, not the making of the squares but the putting it and sewing it together. I did make sure that no colour touched the same colour. It just about fits a double bed.

Are you using a certain type of wool?

Was trying to have one large enough for a single...will take look at your pics Smile

The one edged in black or the baby blanket?

fanjodisfunction · 27/08/2012 16:31

Coz I edged them all in the same colour, it was easier to sew them toghter, I just used the black wool to sew them with.

Youcanringmybell · 27/08/2012 17:28

The one edged in black. Thanks they look lovely. Well done. MN wont let me upload pic yet but will have another go...

thanks I found sewing them together made the blanket flat where as if you crochet them together you have a ridge on one side of the blanket. I use a wool needle, it was my grandmas.

Hope you can would love to see how your getting on.

Youcanringmybell · 27/08/2012 17:46

I have never learned to crochet Blush

I will invest in a wool needle and look forward to putting them together. I have only made 23 squares though..only another 80 ish to go Shock

enjoy making the squares, thats the best bit! Putting them together can be a real drag.

Oh and a little tip for you, as you are sewing them together, sew the end of the wool on the needle as you go along, that way you will only have one end at the end to sew in. (hope that makes sense)

Youcanringmybell · 27/08/2012 19:34

Oh yes - I thought it through (what you were saying)! Yes I will sew it in and save myself from messing around with too many ends..so to speak Grin

Thanks

Mine are all on the woolly hugs site, i don't have the patience to do the squares and hook them together Blush

I made a rainbow granny stripe one recently (give me a sec and I'll link) and I'm slowly working on a fluffy teddy one for PidjChick, but I've got 3 months till i need that one Wink

Somewhat more personal, i hope, and it's sirdar baby bamboo so much nicer quality!

Youcanringmybell · 30/08/2012 17:03

Oh yes much nicer than a Mamas and Papas - but professional!
I love Sirder Bamboo - the weight is perfect and it falls so nicely.
