Does anyone sell their stuff on Etsy?

Just wondering if things sell well on there or not?

My mum and dad are both quite crafty types and since the change in benefits they've lost a fair bit of money and can't afford to pay their bills.

I was hoping maybe selling their stuff on Etsy might top up their income a bit.

i do, I sell about 60% of the stuff I advertise. If it is something that I know will sell eventually, I just relist it once the time has expired. What are they wanting to sell? when you say 'crafty' do you mean crafty or as in arts and crafts?!
Take a lookat similar itens to see what is selling and for how much.

Well my mum knits and my dad can make anything you can imagine with wood.

The sort of stuff they make (baby clothes, wooden name plaques and hangers) sell for a lot more than they've sold them for previously, but it costs them to make them so I didn't want to tell them to start making examples for them to photograph if they're not gonna sell anything.

I have two shops on etsy which are quite successful but you have to realise etsy is huge. Its based in the US so you need to consider overseas postage to appeal to a wider market.

Have a look at Folksy, it's the same principle as etsy and UK based, I have a shop on there as well and all my orders on there are from the UK.

I also have a website, facebook page and advertise in magazines.

Most of all, you need to get your online store noticed so will have to do a lot of online networking.

Its a good idea to look at both Etsy and Folksy and see what competition is on there for things your parents can make and see what prices they go for.

They have facebook for the wooden signs. It was a massive hit for the first few months but now pretty much everyone in our town who wants to order has done and they don't really know how to promote it further.

Thanks for the tip on Folksy. Will check it out.
