Can anyone help me find a knitting pattern for a jumper similar to
this one?
I've had a look on ravelry but don't think my brain is awake enough to think what to search under!
Has anyone seen anything similar?

Would this work if you made it with long sleeves?

blabalalalablabla · 21/08/2012 11:32

I did see that one - it could work perhaps but I'm not that an experienced knitter so don't know how confident I'd be at going 'off pattern'.

I like the slouchiness of the gp jumper though so wouldn't know what wool to use or which sized needles to use?

Sirdar have a Big Bamboo pattern (leaflet number 9489) for a textured sweater with a roll neck. It's knitted on 10mm needles so would knit up quickly.

Sorry I can't post a link as I'm on my phone.

Excellent -thanks for that - am tempted to get some big bamboo and see how I get on - I'm sure I can draw up a basic pattern with my mum's help!
The jumper in the link looks like quite a simple pattern... will report back

How about Cara here on ravelry

blabalalalablabla · 22/08/2012 20:35

ooh - that looks pretty much perfect - it looks as if it has a lovely shape to it too whereas the gp one looks as if it could be a little bit bulky - I like the way the gp one slouches down over the shoulders, but I guess I could possibly just add some stitches and knit longer rows for the top third of the body to get the same effect?

thank you so much :o

Dropped shoulders work better on baggy jumpers so don't knit too small a size. You would need to keep straight at the armhole instead of decreasing, then when you knit the sleeves, cast them off as soon as you get to the underarm rather than knitting the shaped top of the sleeve.

I'm not a fan of drop shoulders TBH, I have a couple of jumpers I made in the 1980s and they just make your arms look stumpy IMO! I think the pattern has a lovely shape and interesting stitches as it is.

It might be interesting finding an Aran yarn the right thickness (16sts to 10cm) - a fine chunky might be better like here

fossil97 · 22/08/2012 21:46

In fact various of the Wendy chunky yarns like "Mode" and "Merino" (lovely pure wool) would probably do the job.

I've queued up that pattern now!

blabalalalablabla · 23/08/2012 08:40

hmm - that's true - looking at some of the pictures it's quite a fitted shape to would probably look a little weird with the dropped shoulders.

off to peruse different yarns...

you can get the actual yarn from Loop in Islington too

here

They might advise on a substitute if the price is a bit too eyewatering even for a 100g ball!

blabalalalablabla · 23/08/2012 19:37

Ouch - £13 per 100g - will definitely need a substitute at those prices!

I was wondering about sirdar click chunky as an alternative

I think that is as good as you'd get in the UK, it just might be slightly thicker, check tension first in case you need to go down a needle size or possibly just knit the next size down. Its a nice yarn.
