to be fair db makes cards with the stuff she's selling.

talentless is a bit unfair everyone has a talent :)

i do wonder how she feels reading all the comments that slag her off. - not just here i hasten to add......

anyway......

JayzMummy · 10/03/2006 16:31

Champs you are so sweet....wish I had a pair of your rose coloured specsGrinYou see the good in everything and thats a blessing.

Each to their own I say....and of course my opiniin of DB is exactly that ~ my opinion.
I get so sick listening to people say how wonderful her cards are, when they are mediocre....so run of the mill. How can one woman and her cards stop someone from committing suicide????
She is, as I said in a previous post, IMO a bloody good business woman and I admire her for her sucess in the field of commerce.

There are lasses who have cards in the gallery here though, that display real natural talent and there's not a bloomin peel off or topper in sight....now to me thats real talent.

Can I have a signed card now before you become too famous Wink What great news, clever you, well done, what an achievment.

Fubbs · 10/03/2006 17:15

Just to pull this back from the DB debate (she has her place but I found I grew out of her style quite quickly - still obsessed with matting and layering though Grin!!) and BLOODY WELL DONE to JM. And I'm not a bit surprised you won Smile.

JayzMummy · 10/03/2006 17:18

Thanks FubbsSmile
and I agree with you...we all have to start somewhereGrin

champs · 10/03/2006 18:21

arrggg!! not posting after this.....

the lady didn't say dawns cards brought her back from suicide rather that she was watching the show and got into crafting which helped her at a time she was ill and deppressed and considering suicide......

I'll take my rose coloured glasses away from this thread now.

soapbox · 10/03/2006 18:21

Champs?????

champs · 10/03/2006 18:24

yes???

soapbox · 10/03/2006 18:24

X-posted:)

Champs JM has made it clear that it is just her opinion and of course you can have a different one to hers!

Let's not turn this celebratory thread into a DB for or against contest - please - pretty please:):):)

champs · 10/03/2006 18:26

not cheesed of with jm's opinion.....

chesed off with her post.

:)

Dior · 10/03/2006 19:18

Actually, I was joking when I said the woman had been thinking of committing suicide. It was supposed to be an ironic post...sorry if anyone thought it had really happened. Actually, a lot of people say that finding Dawn B and card making has brought them back from depression...I just over emphasised it all a bit Blush

JayzMummy · 10/03/2006 19:21

Oh Champs...I didnt mean for my post to upset youShock

What I meant was that you always see the good in everything and thats such an excellent quality to have.

Im not as well blessed with the same trait.

If something is made badly, with no time or effort put into it then there is no way I could say "Oh well done...its fantastic" cus thats not me. I cant see the point?

I guess its horse for courses and there has to be a niche in every market to cover all tastes.....just cus I dont like DB's style doesnt mean I wouldnt use/buy her products....because I have and would do again....including her peel offsShock

Apologies again if I upset it....I certainly didnt intend to.

Annyywwaayyyy! Well done for winning the competition Grin.

UCM · 10/03/2006 22:55

Well done JM Grin

kkgirl · 11/03/2006 08:08

Well done JM for winning the competition.

Don't want to start another argument but I must admit I'm mildly annoyed about the peel off/toppers comments myself.

There is a lot of real talent on here, and then there are other people like me who can make a passable card, who also work and can't devote hours and hours to making cards. I have three kids, with hectic social lives so my "me time" is very limited.

But I do enjoy trying out ideas and different techniques when I can, and I don't think we should be dissing each other, everyone does what they can, and not everyone wants to be at competition standard, if they enjoy it, get some comfort from it in this hard old life then fair play I say.

I personally don't like Dawn Bibby, and she whips the cards together quickly, but such a lot of people get inspiration from her and if they can't get to shops for whatever reason, remember a lot of customers will be elderly and housebound they it is a lifeline to them.

Rant over.

Dior · 11/03/2006 09:18

KK - I do use peel-offs occasionally, but I think that, in general, the professional crafty types in magazines would steer clear. The same goes for toppers. They all have their place, and obviously sell well. Sorry if I upset you at all in that previous thread. x

asproclear · 11/03/2006 10:04

hear hear kkgirl, I too work full-time but find making cards very theraputic and use peel-offs, I just enjoy making cards whatever the method and all my customers love them which is the main thing :)

JayzMummy · 11/03/2006 11:43

Welcome aspro to A&C's.

My this thread has taken a turn hasnt it!!!

On previous threads I have always defended those that use toppers, peel offs etc although I loathe both. I totally appreciate that there is a need for them and that when people first start out making papercraft goodies, they often start by using them. The natural progression to moving on and making original designs soon follows for most.

I guess thats the beauty of papercraft, there are sooooo many products out there to satisfy all levels.

Will leave this thread now but before I do, I will share with you some other good news.....I also won another category of the competition and my work will be on display at Olympia at the end of the month.Smile

Loads of stash prizes making their way to my door for me to play with Grin

Jays - you're really on a roll aren't you?

What section was this win for?

You are going to be overflowing in goodies - still might help set up some stock for the shopWink

champs · 11/03/2006 14:30

oy JM! come back!! you cant dish out good news and then scarper!!

what catergory was it? good to see fresh faces winning and someone we "know" too.

are you going yo olympia? what a wonderful thing to see your work up in lights!!

no matter what diff opinions we all have, it's great news for you and i'm so happy for you. I subscribe to scrapbook insp, and cant wait to see your csrd and lo in there.

how did the magazine design team thingy go? i remember you saying you as asked to submit your work.

kkgirl - 3 kiddies too, it's hard finding time for yourself isn't it!! that's what makes your creations that more special to you. it takes alot just to find time to sit down and make something. Some days i only manage to cut something out before i need to pack away again Grin

i see cards with peel offs in magazines and also toppers made by the design teams and profesionals alike. winning cards have also used these.

I am starting to appreciate my own work much more, i always pick at my stuff and criticise it but am trying to stop.

hi asproclear:)

champs · 11/03/2006 14:32
