Wool - best place to buy?

I am new to crocheting and loving it. Trouble I have found is finding cheap wool! Everywhere is so expensive and I really don't want to start using expensive stuff when I am still practising and learning.

I bought some value wool at Hobbycraft but even that was rather high.

Could anyone please give me some tis and recommendations on where I can locate rather inexpensive wool.

Thank you so much in advance.

Abakhan is the cheapest I've found. I only started knitting a few months ago and I only do blankets for the local animal rescue. I'm allergic to wool so I don't use that. Also it needs to be washable at 40 degrees. Abakhan are fantastic. We have a day out every month or so to their Liverpool shop. They have them elsewhere too. They are also online. Sell vast range of fabrics, wools, haberdashery etc. I use Robin acrylic (fab for pet blankets) at around 1.30 per 100g ball. Sometimes it's reduced. Huge colour selection. Takes around 5/6 balls for a large blanket as it goes a long way. The cheapest I've found even ebay is more expensive.

ChristieF that sounds great, thank you. I'm off now to check their online store :)

Easy! the black sheep woolshop is brilliant, you can phone them to place an order/ask for advice and if you live nearby, they have a fab woolbarn where there are loads and loads of bargains to be had. Otherwise, they sell over the internet so you can place your order online. They stock patterns, wool, buttons, needles, embroidery kits etc, etc.

Other than that - some of the pound shops like poundland sell massive balls of wool (which acrylic based) and not particularly good quality, but for are relatively inexpensive, so would be ideal to practice with, so may be worth looking there too. Good luck!

My local Arthritis Research charity shop also stocks the Robin acrylic very cheaply, brand new in lots of colours. Great for practising with.

Have you got a market? Mine has a stall with a variety of cheap yarns.

When you are addicted and ready for posh wool, then the fun really starts tries and fails to hide massive stash

Wilkos sell a limited selection of yarn quite cheap although you might need a larger wilkos for this but great for practicing with
