Can you recommend me a knitting pattern book for boys

I have loads of patterns and books but they are nearly all babies/toddlers and mainly girly.

I would like to knit for boys 3-6 roughly, and specifically for my 3yo boy. Anyone got any recommendations? I am already on ravelry but I like to get the physical book/booklet, it's not the same!

Things I like are stuff like Sublime patterns, Sirdar pattern books, not too fussy stuff, maybe in DK or aran weight - bit of cabling is fine. The only one I have so far is the Sirdar aran book Farmyard Girls & Tractor Boys. Any suggestions welcome.

Bump

Someone must know some lovely boys patterns. They are really fierce on the Rav forums Grin

I was going to recommend Milla Mia too. Their first two - Close Knit Gang and Bright Young Things - have some lovely things for girls and boys up to age 5 and I think their new one has things for slightly older children.

Have made the Gabrielle jumper for DD from Close Knit Gang and think it's a lovely pattern for both girls and boys.

MillaMia is too hard for me Blush I am not up to much in the way of colourwork and definitely can't do intarsia/fairisle.

Like the Sirdar Chinos booklet Nickel , there is a tractor jumper DS would love but I might have to get my friend to help with the colourwork part.

Nickel - I have fancied that sock book for a while but not bought it yet

This is lovely I have just knitted it in denim and yellow for a 2 year old .

Wait a little while for the page to load as it shows a bright pink cardi first ( poss not what you are looking for )Grin

DD would love that pink cardi! But I already have a massive queue of stuff for her. Currently finishing a cardigan that has a patterned yoke that required picking up 213 stitches. 213 of the buggers. I suspect I won't be knitting this one again Grin

213!!

I sat last night and taught myself to pick up and knit a neck band tidily for the first time. I have always bumbled through before.

Anyhoo.... it is the boys sweater that I have done . Do you like it ??

MoaningMingeWhingesAgain · 08/08/2012 22:52

Erm...not so much, TBH. I am a bit wary of crew necks for DS too - he has an absolutely massive head Grin I love the Sublime patterns but they only go up to about age 2, the cashmere merino silk ones for tinies. And I am not a good enough knitter to make them bigger, IYKWIM, still a novice really.

I can do simple lace (but cocked up a cardigan) but not combined with decreases. I can do a bit of cables. Never tried intarsia/fairisle, too scary. Only had a tiny go at knitting in the round but have ordered sock needles because I want to get the hang of it.

Ah I see your point about crew necks . Will have a look through my patterns .

Ok, I've bought a few patterns by Kelly Brooker on Ravelry.

Duelling Wands her patterns are very well written, different sizes and wool types. Plus as they are seam free [knit with straight then circs] no sewing up, which is a bonus as I hate that task. I thought the pattern a good investment.

Tama this one is free in age 4, tis a good jumper for boys. Knitted a baby size one in a few evenings, was my first attempt at seam free knitting and it was fab.

beyond puerperium which is another lovely knit. The newborn version is free [and adorable on any baby] but it also looks good on an older boy. [or girl]

That last link is gorgeous!!!

I love Sirdar jumper patterns - they do a nice jumper for their crofter wool but it works well with any variegated yarn.

Daisybell1 · 14/08/2012 11:10

This one is in the Knit 2 together book which I got in The Works for £4.

MoaningMingeWhingesAgain · 14/08/2012 17:10

I like some of those Kelly Brooker ones but Duelling Wands is the nicest and only goes to 2yrs Sad

I love The Works, had some good knitting books from there and from The Book People.

I have ordered this and this so far
