Fading yarn deliberately

Has anyone done this and how did it work out?

I'm crocheting a ripple baby blanket for a friend. Colours are quite muted anyway but my friend loves faded, vintage fabrics in subtle colours.

I think wool would fade a bit if left in the sun/rain for a few days, but it's sirdar snuggly so not sure whether acrylic reacts to light in the same way? (was planning to put out the blanket when complete)

Any experience, thoughts or someone to just tell me this is a terrible idea!

snuggly seems to hold colour quite well. Have some knitted cardi's that are years old, they've bobbled a bit but the colour hasn't faded that badly.

Would you feel brave to spritz a watered down bleach over it. I'm not sure if it'd have a funny reaction though so you may want to sample on a swotch.

Thanks Kellestar

Have a sample out on the line to see how it fades, will try bleach if this doesn't work.

Does bleach work on acrylic? I thought it was only natural fibres? Will look forward to finding out...

advice from a friend... wash quite a few times with a biological detergent for white's, they have bleach in smaller quantities and will fade over time. She was smacking herself in the forehead as she didn't want to do this and didn't realise it contained bleach. She asked the opposite, how to brighten the colours up again.

Lovely thank you.

Sample has been out in the sun and rain now for a few days with no noticeable change.

Will try the bio-detergent next.
