Attaching a skirt to a leotard?

If I sew the skirt on top of the leotard then you will see the raw edge of the skirt

If I sew it from underneath there will be a little hump/lump at the top which won't look very nice

Is my only option to cut the leotard and sew the skirt in place?

What sort of skirt is it? Could it actually go on a waist band instead?

KatyMac · 02/08/2012 21:10

Not really

I've done them before on a waistband & they move too much

It's low on the hips with a bit of a point off to one side ideally

Could you bias bind the raw edge and stitch that to the leotard?

KatyMac · 02/08/2012 21:21

Hmm I could

I've got 2 layers of double full circle skirt so that's a fair amount of bulk - if I bias bind it would that be 4 more layers?

Ah!

As the skirt is 2 layers could I make a nice seam at the top & sew the lower skirt layer on to the leotard?

I don't think that will work

Any ideas?

I'm so sorry, but every time I see this thread title,w I misread it as "Attaching a skirt to a leopard" - which strikes me as a very risky thing to do!

KatyMac · 03/08/2012 15:32

Well I am using neon pink shiney leopard print material.....which I think is scary in itself Grin

Wonderweb?

KatyMac · 03/08/2012 16:18

Nope that wasn't strong enough

Oh dear - this is hard

Sounds like another tricky project KatyMac.

Given that presumably the leotard needs to stretch, then you don't want the stitching to be too tight? I would possibly go with hand zigzag stitching the underside of the skirt to the leotard at the joining seam (where the two layers join)

KatyMac · 03/08/2012 18:39

All DD's projects are tricky

Hmm I had some advise about sewing it on upsidedown (from underneath), I'll let you know how it goes

Nearly finished - it looks better than I thought it would (with all the messing around)

I still need to decide about the bottom of the leotard and add the elastic to the neckline

DD has found some great ear-rings & I think she will look fab (but she needs a new lipstick!)

Can you hand sew lycra?

Are you putting a picture up?

KatyMac · 04/08/2012 12:04

On my profile? I hope

Wow, that's excellent Katy Flowers

Did you ever get to the bottom of the organza / fishing wire to make cupcake curls btw?

KatyMac · 05/08/2012 21:25

Yep it's easy, either sew it in or thread it in after you've hemmed

Thanks
