getting an item custom embroidered?

Hello. I'm not sure if this would be the right place to ask this question... but, I'm looking to get a few 'school' shirts (polo/hoody) done with a logo for my son's school. DH designed the logo, but where would I start to look to get something like this done?

In case this sounds like a totally bonkers request, ds is attending a special needs school which doesn't have their own uniform. They're supposed to wear the uniform of their local mainstream school, but on the one day a week he's attending the mainstream school he wears that uniform... so it would be completely confusing to wear it all week to 2 different schools!

The school was happy for us to do this, but had no idea where to get it done!

Any help would be much appreciated.... oh if the same company/person could supply the clothing, that would be helpful, but not essential! :)

Thanks!

Surelu it would be LESS confusing for him to just wear the same uniform.every day?

A friend of mine had some polo shirts embroidered with a logo she had designed. It was years ago so no point asking her what the company was, I'm afraid.

If you google 'logo embroidery' I'm sure lots of companies will come up. Then it is just a case of choosing the best one for you.

GnocchiNineDoors, he can recognise the logos and knows which schools they belong to, so if he's wearing the one for the mainstream and then turns up to a different school, it really is quite confusing for him.

Thanks DaftMaul, that's what I started with and there seemed to be loads of different places so was looking to see if anyone had dealt with any of the companies. I've had transfers made up before, but I think the embroidery might be trickier. I suppose I can just contact a few and see how it goes.

It costs a bit to get the "stencil" made up and then you can normally have it on any garment you like for about £5(?) plus the cost of the garment. The embroidery company will be able to get all the usual sweatshirts, etc from a choice of suppliers.

You might as well use one that's close to you, they tend to be small businesses.

Can I suggest you get it made up as a "patch" to sew onto a garment -

this will ?

A.Make it easier to get the embroidery done - nothing to send off, which means choosing online works for you better

B. mean that they can be picked off & will be reusable at a later dateWink

I've not used these personally yet, but it was recommended to me ages ago & I still had it book marked

Damn I forgotTHE LINK

rockinhippy · 26/07/2012 12:14

Sorry that was the wrong link Blush

THIS IS THE CORRECT ONE

I agree about patches - embroidered uniform clothing (which is rife everywhere now) is virtually unrecyclable. Either because there's no market for something with a "Little Teddies Playgroup" logo, even in developing world, or for security reasons so people can't impersonate employees.

I keep even meaning to suggest it to school but then nobody can sew on or unpick a badge any more if you look on threads about school or beavers/cubs.

Thanks very much... I hadn't really given a lot of thought to badges, but yes, could look into it. I've done enough taking on & unpicking of beavers/scouts/pony club badges, so I think I could manage it! :)
