Recommended instructions for roman blind making - where?

I've made attempted roman blinds twice now and have had to redo/ restitich for not getting distances between rods correct / lining being slightly out etc. I am 110% careful when measuring and just want some easy to follow instructions to avoid making the same mistakes again. I am about to make a blackout lined blind for my daughter's bedroom in Laura ashley fabric that was quite expensive and don't want to make a mistake.

Any suggestions as to instructions / tips gratefully received.

Thanks

I made some using a kit from John Lewis - you got the poles and cords and what have you, and instructions for cutting the fabric. Would something like that help?

I have www.amazon.co.uk/Blinds-Curtains-Cushions-Stylish-Treatments/dp/0953526755 this book out of the library at the moment, I'm going to buy my own copy though because it's an absolute bible for blinds and curtains.

They suggest you cut the lining extra long, and stitch one pocket at a time measuring as you go, to avoid the creeping out of square situation. I bought my Roman Blind kit off the Merrick and Day website but previously I've always DIY'd it with wooden dowels and battens. Also it sounds time consuming, but hand sewing parts of the blind gets better results than machining because you are not having to turn anything inside out.

These days you are meant to have a safe cord system for blinds in childrens rooms and they have all the right kits.

Thank you - will look at kits and also the book. I've done them from scratch, so might be worthwhile using a kit first. Thanks
