I'm in bobbin case hell

I've uploaded 3 pics on to my profile out of desperation....
1 shows everything looking good after threading,
2 shows what starts to happen whilst sewing: is this normal?
3 shows what happens when I've finished, in this case I was able to just pull the threads out and cut them, but sometimes they are so tightly knotted I have had to cut the fabric, I don't want to start making anything with nice fabric until this is sorted!
I've contacted Janome and they say I the bottom thread isn't catching because I haven't threaded it properly?
I have changed needles and bobbins, machine is 1 week old from john lewis!

Is the bobbin back to front? Try turning it over so the thread comes out the other way?

MissFoodie · 01/07/2012 20:49

according to instructions, should be spinning anti clockwise, I did try the other way and it did the same, although less....

should bobbin be spinning clockwise or anticlockwise??? or does it depend on brand of machine?

I have no advice. But just came on to say your thread title made me laugh! Thanks for that Grin. I hope it gets sorted by a knowledgeable crafter though!

Catsmamma · 01/07/2012 20:56

has anyone been fankling with the tension dial??

or my old machine had a popup knobby bit, right by the top where the thread hooks into the hooky lever that goes up and down...sometimes it would pop upand then I'd get a great ravel of thread.

and i supposed you have checked the way you are threading, in case it's different to your last machine? I have gotten the ravel of doom is I miss the hooky lever doodah or if the thread jumps out of it.

I think it might be the tension as well.
Agree with Cats, re-thread and fiddle with the tension.

BasilDonna · 01/07/2012 21:01

On my machine bobbin goes anti-clockwise and then the thread feeds clockwise.
If that makes sense.

I found the best place to explain sewing machine troubles and help was You Tube!

MissFoodie · 01/07/2012 23:44

cats I know what you mean but my machine doesn't have one
have rethreaded everything, tried with different tension settings, no change......

Bring it back to john Lewis & ask them to show you how to thread it?

Friend of mine had to bring her overlocker back twice to learn how to thread it properly (& the tiniest mis-thread mucked it up)

Oh MissFoodie, I was thinking of you on Friday morning as I rushed to finish GD's bridesmaid dress and wondered if you had chucked it all at the wall in frustration.

Is the needle facing the right way and have you threaded it correctly?

Has the feed dog (those cog things that help feed the fabric under the foot) been disengaged?

I can't see from the photo which foot you are using. Is it the all-purpose straight stitch/zig zag foot?

Can you show us a line of stitching? Top side and underneath please.
