I want to knit something for my 6 yr old daughter - can anyone recommend a good pattern book? I am only a beginner so nothing too fancy!

Rowan - Pipsqueaks or Junior. I've done lots from these for ds and dd. They are well designed and some are even quite funky.

debbie bliss I adore them.

What kind of thing? Jumpers or hats and scarf type things?

If the former, debbie bliss is cute. If the latter-check out lucinda guy.

For monsoony type stuff (fluffy bolero? Short sleeved embroidered jumper?) check out erika knight simple knits for little cherubs. Can't wait til dd is old enough for them.

Theres also a zoe something who does nice stuff, and the Miss Bea series from Rowan-they are very basic.

Debbie Bliss. Rowan also has some nice things.

So I am the only person who finds Debbie Bliss and Louisa Harding (Miss Bea) cute on the page, but boxy and not well-shaped in execution then Grin
There are also some nice patterns in the Jaeger books too :)

all of the ones mentioned have good/quite easy patterns. zoe is mellor, i think.

It is, bundle.
There are some interesting vintage knits for children and adults in her book with Kaffe Fassett, Family Knitting.
And Knitting in Vogue, also a vintage book, has some lovely stuff for babies and children from the 30s through to the 80s.

Simple Knits for Little Cherubs (get that title!) by Erika Knight has some slightly modern twists on very traditional knits..I've done a crossover ballet cardigan for dd1 and there's a very Famous Five knitted dressing gown Smile

I agree Marina re Debbie Bliss. She does make kids look like 80s executives.

And she has a demon like fondness for intrasia.

I've only used one Miss Bea pattern though and found it pretty good. Very basic, but easy to adapt.

Yes, its zoe mellor. And I love that dressing gown! Just need 3 years of spare time to knit it in...

Most kids patterns tend to be for under 5's I find - eg Miss Bea but thanks for the suggestions & I will have a good rummage to find these books!

mousiemousie, there are some good free patterns online, particularly at \link{http://knitting.about.com\this site}.

I'm working on putting up my own patterns, but so far I only make hats. If you want to make a hat for your daughter, I can help.
