Making homemade cards - ideas?

So I've decided to save some money by making my own cards - the trouble is I'm not very imaginative. I can copy an idea beautifully, i just can't think of them in the first place! Grin
Does anyone have any ideas of places I can look online where there are lovely (not too challenging) homemade cards I can browse though?
Thanks :)

Well yes but making cards gets quite expensive so unless you use completely recycled materials you won't realy save...you can get a pack of 4 for about a pound!

Whereas paper and trims can reach into double figures for nice things. I would look for cards from recycled materials online to get ideas.

yy ThespokenNerd - I have a friends wedding coming up next week, n I want to hand make her card. Just been to Hobbycraft... which is NOT NOT the cheapest, but time running out fast... and materials (without cards, glue n other bits) came to nearly five squid.

A nice card from Clintons\anywhere may have cost near on the same, and I think a HM is always nicer. But still... materials are costly Confused

Hmm-may have to rethink my plans then. Thank you for the replies!

Have a look at the pink petticoat website and blog. If you have a printer you can buy some of her downloads (they're not expensive) and print your own embellishments. The website is good for inspiration too.

Crafty blogocks is interesting, a totally different style from pink petticoat, and I like valentines-crafts.com. If you look at these blogs, and then look at some of the blogs that they are watching, you should have plenty if inspiration!

I would disagree that its more expensive to make your ownConfused

We always make our own, both printed & otherwise, you can buy packs of blanks cheaply -

For printed, buy packs of something like this www.amazon.co.uk/Inkjet-Greeting-Paper-Weight-Envelopes/dp/B000W4DRZE/ref=sr_1_4?s=officeproduct&ie=UTF8&qid=1340535471&sr=1-4HERE - when finished the look professional & they work out at less than 50p each - most office suppliers sell them, but do buy online as that cuts the cost right down - I use UKDVD, who are a bit cheaper still, but they are out of stock ATM

Then use your own photos, or download images suitable for the person its needed for from the net, ie; the one I made last night was for a 50th birthday for a friend of DHs, who is an old punk rocker with a big love for one particular punk band - I downloaded an photo of an old gig ticket - took it into THIS FREE ONLINE PHOTO EDITOR & added text - you can do all sorts of other things with images on there tooWink

I was also given THIS LINK by nickel on another thread recently with is also free & looks better than Lunapic if you are a PC user (we use MAC so its no good for us).

If you don't want to print, but craft your designs, you can buy packs of blanks with envelopes cheaply in all kinds of places, even Argos & the works or any craft or stationary suppliers.

Again LOTS you can do, everything from buying lengths of felt - don't buy squares though, as they are expensive - by the meter is MUCH cheaper - usually about £3-4.99 & you can buy 1/4 meters in various colours - cut simple shapes, triangles for trees or angels for example - add glitter, sequins, whatever - you can often pick up packs of these sorts of bits in 99p stores, or Poundland - no need at all to buy the expensive card trims from craft shops - make your ownWink

FABRICLAND sell felt by the metre, lots of colours - though the website is awful, its safe to buy from the shops are great

You can also buy good stencils from craft shops - just paint with glue & dip in glitter - Poundland etc good for glitter too - we use old ice cream tubs for dipping into as it saves the mess & glitter

I'm going to try & upload a photo of Xmas cards I helped DD make last year - bear with me & check my top photo
