making reusable babywipes

so my plan this weekend is to cut up a load of old muslins and turn them into baby wipes. I have a sewing machine but my only experience was turning up a load of trousers a few years ago.

Any good video's or simple tips I should know, or even what squiggly pattern on the sewing machine I should use?

My assumptions so far were spend 30 mins remembering how to thread it cut them up as straight as possible and do something that involves kinda folding it two times, then sewing along the hem edge?

thanks for any help you could provide a complete novice

I was in the same position a few years ago. I ended up making double sided ones using a terry towel and some fleece. I pinned a bit of fleece the same size onto a terry towel. Then I used a zig zag stich and basically run double lines up and across the towel/fleece to divide it up into wipe sized squares. Then cut in between the double lines to make the wipes, they didn't require any hemming. It was quite easy I was a complete novice and they didn't fall apart.

If you want to have a try yourself I understand, or I can send you a load over as mine are both potty trained now and I have actually just cleared out the drawers and was wondering what to do with the wipes I made! Or if you just want one or two as an example that's fine too.

I just used pieces of fleece material. Still have some around the place a few years after nappy wearing stopped :)

And a tutorial for making cloth wipes.

Fleece is quite good for wipes, it's made of recycled plastic and poo kind of peels off it. But pretty much any soft fabric will work.

see now I am torn,

part of me was quite looking forward to having a task/project to achieve the joy of being at home but innat I think I would be foolish to not take you up on your offer, otherwise I have to kick DH and the DCs out for a few hours at the weekend. Maybe still have a go anyway. I will pm you later/tomorrow so we can swap details and work out how to pay for postage or feel free to pm me in the meantime. Obviously DH is keener on the posting option Grin

I don't want to use fleece myself as would like to recycle what I have in. Currently I have been using cut up bits of sheet and old muslins while we trial it out. Obviously they are starting to fray but we have found them good to use.

Now say that DD's lovely dress had ripped, would it be too awful to just put in a few rough hand stitches?
