Eyelets need a setter (there's a thread on A&C about various setters). Wasn't sure about snaps so just Googled & found "Snaps can be added to everything ! Use a universal hole punch to make a hole, insert a snap, turn the project over and set with a universal eyelet setter."

I've not used either myself - so hopefully someone will sort you out with better info in a mo !

If you make a hole for the eyelet with say a pencil point, you can actually put the eyelet in and bang back with a hammer, but a setter set is fairly cheap and does a better job.

Dingle · 25/02/2006 15:27

Are snaps different from brads?

Whizzz · 25/02/2006 15:37

here this what I found when I googled 'snaps'

Whizzz · 25/02/2006 15:37

(like an eyelet but without a hole ??)

jenk1 · 25/02/2006 15:49

whats a silent setter? ive not even heard of one of these before, can someone do a link for me.
Thanks

PeachyClair · 25/02/2006 16:00

Whizzz · 25/02/2006 16:08

Makes holes without the need for banging the punch with a hammer

Oo I do need one of these

jenk1 · 25/02/2006 19:36

Just like to add, from what I can make out... eyelets come mainly in 3 main sizes. 1/4, 1/8 1/16 of an inch. So make sure you buy the correct size eyelets for your setter. I say this as I bought the Fiskars set of 3 so was ok. Before this I had no idea which size was what.

MerlinsBeard · 25/02/2006 20:42

i had noticed that there were sizes on packet, are they expensive?(going to look online after i type this)

Snaps need a setter BUT I dont use one!
I used brute force and ignorrance, which apparently I have a lot of!

soapbox · 25/02/2006 21:08

I haven't tried it, but apparently you can do them with an old fashioed biro pen!

MerlinsBeard · 25/02/2006 21:08

lots of ignorance or brute force

OP posts:
JayzMummy · 25/02/2006 21:09
