Hi I am in awe of your collective creative talent. I have one but would love to start some. What would you suggest as a good place to start fora novice.

Well, that depends on what sort of craft you have in mind.

Gluing-and-sticking? ie scrapbooking and card making
Fabricy stuff? Sewing - dresses or small things
Wooly stuff? Crochet or knitting
Photography?
Painting?

Depends on your interest. It has to continue once you start.Sometimes I end up not interested and leave it halfway.

I had to think twice about this - I'm sure you mean you're a virgin crafter and not a Crafty Virgin. Smile

I agree you need to decide what area you would like to follow.

There are lots of knitting clubs these days so learning to knit wouldn't be too hard. If you like fabric then there's dressmaking or quilting. I find quilting easier and less stressful. Tapestry or cross stitch are an easy introduction into other forms of needlework.

I'm sure others could advise how to start within the other craft areas. Why don't you visit somewhere like hobbycraft which has most of these things under one roof. See what appeals?

I hope nobody minds me posting here as i'm not a MN crafter on any boards. When I read your post I thought that since craft is such a massive area maybe a good place to start to decide what you'd like to try is by looking at what others have made that you would love to have made yourself. I know that sounds a bit obvious but its a really good indicator if you see something and wish you'd made it, when you learn how to its a great feeling! I'd be inclined to go to a craft fayre and see what's being made THEN head to Hobbycraft or wherever when you have an idea what you want to make. Hope that's not all obvious and unhelpful and you find your 'thing' soon.
