Hi

I am a knitter but decided to try crochet for a change. question is really about the wool to use. I have a book with patterns and it recommends Rooster wool which is 50% alpaca/50% merino. do you think i could get away with using Wendy wool which is cheaper.

I don't know if i want to do the whole blanket but might make up a few squares and make a cushion.

TBH i am going to try out the technique with some DK in 3 colours first.

i am very good at starting new projects but then run out of impetus but I suspect many of us fall into this category

thanks

i've been teaching myself to crochet and instead of investing in the same wool as I would for knitting I have a few balls of cheap 100% acrylic for the kiddies' crafts. I've been using this to try out new techniques, and then if I like it and want to do more, get better wool. Like knitting as long as the weight of the wool is correct, it's your own choice what you use. Smile

Ach, just buy a few balls of squeaky acrylic - that's what I did when I learnt! I bought six balls of horrible stuff for about £4 - much better to learn fail learn, and experiment with something you don't care about!

Apparently crochet uses more wool than knitting (I don't know, I don't knit), so an effect you get in striped wool when knitting you won't get when crocheting.

thanks I had a go last night and it did improve but found it difficult to follow pattern and couldn't keep track of what I have done.

I had to treble into the ring which was hard. I think it would make a square in the end.
