Increasing on a purl row?

I've never done this! I've only ever done it on a knit row, and I'm very [comfused]! I pick up the bottom loop between the two stitches, is there a way of doing something similar on a purl?

When I increase on a knit row I knit into the front of the stitch and them before sliding off the stitch onto the other needle I knit into the back. Not sure if that's possible with a purl row- but when I'm done feeding dd2 I'll have a go! Someone more knowledgeable will prob answer by then!

Whereabouts is the increase in the row? Is it at the end?

lemonlymon · 10/05/2012 22:06

It's each end of the row. I'm quite tempted to just do it on the knit rows, it's only a couple of increases for a sleeve...

Yes, you can do a purl front and back like a knit front and back - video tutorial shows how.

Or I suspect you could do an EZ make 1 - never done it on a purl row but it's basically a two-sided stitch, if you see what I mean.

I have to confess, I haven't watched it but was the top hit for 'increase on a purl row' - hope it helps!

Thanks trib.

I'd just do your increase one stitch in from the end (or start), lemon. Too weird to try and do right on the edge.

LatteLady · 10/05/2012 22:30

If it is at the ends of the row, much easier... knit into the stitch and then purl into it... and reverse this at the other end. You will not see the stitch going the "wrong" way when you sew up the piece.

Thank you muchly, latte. It worked! I will investigate those links another time, but for now, I have a sleeve!

I think you can purl into the loop between the stitches - I'm sure I have done that in the past - just put the needle through from the other side, iyswim.

I think you're describing a sort of knit one below, SDTG. Meant to be good for sleeves!
