Where can I find good baby

Can anyone recommend good fairly simple/not too hard baby knitting books? I am pregnant with my first, an OK knitter and would like to make a couple of cardigans and maybe a blanket too and some (simple) soft knitted toys.

I'm a member of Ravelry too but the choice is just bamboozling! So any recommendations of good patterns. Sometimes I get annoyed with Ravelry patterns because I don't know the difference between yarns (ie what brand is substitutable for another) and then am not sure what type to use....

I saw this Debbie Bliss book on Amazon, it has good reviews....

Thank you :)

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ok that title is suspicious. I meant to say "where can I find good baby knitting patterns" not "where can I purchase a baby"....!

Do you want ordinary cardigans or something a bit posh? For normal newborn stuff sirdar early arrivals book 2 or book 3 is good. Can use snuggly dk or 4ply or other standard dk.
For a bit posh, I love the Sublime baby handknit books for cashmere merino silk, which is a lovely but bit expensive wool, some shades available half price from black sheep wools. Could use other dk wool instead but the sublime yarn is nice if you get it

The Sublime books are great for beginners and i have used Sirdar Dk as a substitute for the Sublime.

Debbie Bliss patterns are lovely for beginners. They are usually dk, clearly laid out and not complicated.

There's a very nice blanket which is all patchwork squares she does - knit in one piece?

Have a look at yoda cardigan on ravelry - it's a free pattern and I've done it to death. Easy to put on, no troublesome seams or buttonholes and cute as anything. Does not make your baby look like yoda.

Or, hats - earflap hats, babytop knot hats and the aviatrix hat (Again, on rav) are great, and easy knits.

Baby socks. Too, too, too cute. And, don't come off, unlike bootees.

Sirdar dk is great - washes and washes. Don't get anything handwash unless you are hoping to get postnatal depression.

A blanket is a really, really handy thing - you'll use it until the kid's a toddler. By which time it'll be a muchlovedmotheatenrag.

Enjoy!

Love the title of this thread! I've been looking for good babies for years!

I'm an ok knitter too, not very experimental, and have only just ventured away from acrylic wool. I've found the Sublime Cashmerino silk really lovely to knit with but haven't become an acrylic hater like some - after a week of washing LOs blanket almost daily (don't ask) I'm particularly pleased it's made of chuck it in the wash, dried in a few hours, cheaper wool. I usually use Hayfield Bonus DK for blankets which is made by Sirdar, feels ok, and comes in lovely bright colours.

I've only just joined Ravelry but have found some gorgeous patterns on there, and it's really got me back into knitting. I'm currently making a really nice elephant blanket which isn't simple, but isn't too taxing either. I've also made this cardigan daisy lots of times, it's quick to make and looks lovely on.
