What kind of needles do I need for this big knitting project?

My mother is a keen knitter, and I'd like to get her the needles, and possibly the yarn too, to do a cushion cover in this style. It describes it as using extra-large needles, but I'm not sure what I need to buy, or where from.

Any experts out there? I'd ask mum, but it's a gift so would rather find out without her!

That is pretty specialist stuff. there is an extreme knitting website. It will cost £££ you know.

Ooh, I had forgotten I'd posted this - thanks for the responses. That pattern looks good, Peace. Good tip to get the yarn first, I didn't realise that the yarn told you what needles are needed. Now to find the yarn...!

The last piece of extreme knitting I did I used 15mm needles and Rowan Big Wool doubled up. I have to say that it made my hands and arms ache but I liked the finished scarf. It was about £16 for a short buttoned scarf so you would need to source a cheaper yarn.

This is known as extreme knitting, particularly done by Rachel John who usually uses a number of different balls of wool to create a single yarn...

However her kit is not cheap, you might consider talking to a local turner to make larger needles for your mum, they do a fantastic job and are usually cheaper than the commercial enterprises.

I have some 20mm needles. I could loan them I guess? I don't use them very often.

I last used them to knit a very loose knit scarf.
