Have managed to crochet a simple granny square, what could I try next?!

I can only do treble, double and chain, but does anyone have any pointers?

I have actually also managed a very simple flower. There was a different stitch in that, but I don't know what it is called - where you go through all three. Is that a half something?

There is no denying I find it fiddly Grin So we are talking simple. Had a look online and they all seem to get so complicated.

Thanks

Join Ravelry, look at the Attic24 blog, make more squares and turn them into a miniature blanket?

SoupDragon · 30/04/2012 19:30

IIRC, I made an ever increasing granny square first as a blanket for DD.
Then I made a teacup.
Um... then a baby blanket for a friend, out of squares.
Little apple key rings for the teachers end of term gifts...

Aw bless you woolly lovelies, I'm just waiting for Ravelry to send me a link.

I hope they let loose hookers in

Can't believe I'm crafty enough to be joining Ravelry, that's what everyone else does!

Soupy - did you just keep going with your granny, just one big granny?! Fab!
Thanks Methe too.X

It is all absolutely lovely - people are so clever, but that is all beyond me Smile

This pattern is done in double crochet and chain and is really just a square, minimal shaping at the neck.

I have just completed this as my 2nd crochet project. I've not managed a granny square yet. Not sure I can go round in circles/squares Grin, so if you can do that you're able to do this. I used King Cole Bamboo Cotton.

SoupDragon · 30/04/2012 22:00

I did just keep going, yes :) It is about 2' square I think - BabyDragon has it because I told her I'd made her a blanket. It was very good practice I think as doing the same thing again and again helped set it in my head and it made something nice and big with little effort!

Other stuff I've made, mainly from Ravelry or hopping through the blogs that the at terns link to, include an owl hat, a bunny, a poo (I have sons... say no more), many small monsters... I'm currently doing an Attic24 Ripple blanket which is by far the biggest thing I've embarked on as it's one piece rather than lots of squares sewn together!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 01/05/2012 14:33

Loving the fact you have crocheted a poo Soupy Grin

Pleiades45 - I'm very good at going round in circles and the crochet is good too Grin

I love that ripple blanket. Beautiful. I shall aspire.

Like I say - boys. [rolls eyes]

The ripple blanket is easy - it's all trebles (plus a treble decrease which you'd have to look up I guess - the increases are easy, just two trebles in the same stitch). It's the foundation chain that's scary!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 01/05/2012 14:48

How many was the chain?!

SoupDragon · 01/05/2012 16:56

Mine (which is probably as wide as a double bed) was something like 260. Or possibly more.

Deux · 01/05/2012 16:58

I've made these cute little trinket pots. They are very straightforward and satisfying to do. You could try making the largest size out of 100% wool, then shrink/felt in the washing machine so you get a stiffer fabric. Here versusmag.blogspot.co.uk/2011/04/crochet-nesting-cups-tutorial-with.html

Or you could knock up some cute little coasters. Here versusmag.blogspot.co.uk/2011/08/jardain-crochet-coaster-tutorial-with.html

I'm also working on the crochet bag on Attic 24 and it's been quite fast.

Happy hooking!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 01/05/2012 17:09

Thank you Deux - I'm going to try the coaster Smile One of the many things I find hard is doing that ring to start with, and I'm not sure why, I just find it so fiddly Blush Then when I get going its all much better. I
have high hopes for the coaster though!!

Blimey Soupy - that is a scary foundation chain!

I love making these little things whilst working on bigger projects. I'm ploughing through a granny stripe blanket ....... yawn! I've given myself quite a stretch target for its completion, Christmas this year.

By the time you've made a set of coasters, making the ring will be second nature. Smile Catherine Hirst (goddess of crochet video tutorials) does a great video of how to crochet a circle.

Meant to say the tutorials I linked are US terms. I found it a bit confusing to begin with but it didn't take long to switch between the two.

Happy Hooking. Smile
