Anyone out there who does tapestries?

Hello. Ive been doing tapestries for a while now and have been very frustrated with the options available - I want to make more contemporary tapestries - with the kind of images I have on my walls or buy for greeting cards. Having been unable to find any, I'm thinking of designing a range. My dh (who doesn't craft) thinks I'm bonkers. Does anyone out there think this is a good idea?

yes! i like thinking up 'modern' ideas/designs but have never got the time to actually make anything! go for it. Have you seen the kits on CLothkits' site?

civilfawlty I think you should do it. You may find other tapestry weavers feel the same as you.

I do tapestries of sorts - from beads. Mainly people (ok all people) so far. I want to do more 'arty' stuff. I'd love to do tapestry weaving but don't have time (or the money for decent loom) as yet. Maybe one day!

Do either of you have links to pics of your work?

Ooh. I'm excited you think it's a good idea. I'm pricing it up now. Will keep running ideas by you if I may. Mostly it's something I want - but I'm on mat leave and need a project!!

All my tapestries have been Hunting panels, wildlife and flowers types.
Modern ones sound fab. Good luck with it.

Do it do it do it! If you want it and can't find it, maybe other people do too, and why shouldn't it be you who brings something new to the marketplace?

Well. I'm going to. I have spoken with a graphic designer who is interested in doing the designs and a printer for the canvases and researched packaging. This is SO exciting.

I'd like it to be a social enterprise really. The point isn't to pocket loads of cash. Need to think how best to make it be socially meaningful. I'd like all the packaging to be recycled etc too.

Now - I need a name!

Canvas? Screaming threads? Thread or alive? Life's a stitch?

Glad to see this - I'm writing up cross stitch patterns that are more my style.

I'm intending on opening an etsy shop to flog the pdf's...though that is a steep technological learning curve for me!

Got a bunch of nice quotes and rudeish thing and am sloooooowly getting them charted up.

Have you seen Mr X stitch? Jamie Chalmers runs a really good site with lots of contemporary needlework on it. He's really, really helpful too, and if you send him photos he might do a stitchgasm on you. Also, subversive cross stitch and urban stitches. Loads going on - worht havinga look at craftster too.

My site's called roodstitch. Rood is the old Scots word for "cross" How perfect is that?

Have you seen the Anna Maria Horner kits? They are stunning, I've just bought the floral path bolster one and am determined to actually finish it Grin. They seem to vary in price hugely though do shop around. here
