I am so going to crack this, I will not be defeated!

Treble crochet. I get it now, but... once you have done row one and you turn, doesn't it go column on top of column? But it seems to be column on top of space.

A very nice lady on Youtube has been helping me, but I can't see what hers looks like!

And also the stitch goes in under two on the second row, but that isn't into the space is it?!

I wonder if it is too early for gin, I really do [bugrin]

Here is a tutorial for crocheting a circle. m.videojug.com/film/how-to-crochet-a-circle

Some simple nesting pots here. versusmag.blogspot.co.uk/2011/04/crochet-nesting-cups-tutorial-with.html

Some jute coasters here. easymakesmehappy.blogspot.co.uk/2010/02/jute-coasters-easy-crochet-project.html

Great for beginners. Smile

Pistey, if you can do a treble and a chain stitch you can have a go at a granny Smile

RatherBeOnThePiste · 13/04/2012 10:06

Deux - Those little pots are so sweet, and the coasters too - if I start now I could be making presents for Christmas

I really like the Catherine Hirst stuff, and I even understand what she's saying on the granny tutorial Shock I might even try it! Knots, I'd be in total shock if I managed a granny, that's what other people do! Grin

Help!!!!

I'm stuck again!!

On a granny Smile

OK I have done two rounds, and she says in the corner do 3 trebles, 2 chains, 3 trebles and in the sides just 3 trebles.

Is there a chain that you need to put in between the corner and the side and then from the side to the corner?

I'm a bit confused!

You use the 2 lots of trebles and the chains in between to make the corner, otherwise the square would get too tight. It increases the size of each side by 1 cluster of trebles IYSWIM.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 13/04/2012 16:14

Ok... so are there any chains between the corners and the sides, or are the only chains the ones in-between the trebles in the corners?!

Thanks my lovely Thanks

Well, no expert here , the only ones I've done were for the recent blanket projects, but my pattern has 2 chains in between each set of trebles at the sides, and 3 chains on the corner. The other difference being that in the sides it is only one set of trebles into each chain space, whereas on the corners both sets are into the same space.

craftynclothy · 13/04/2012 19:47

You can kind of choose whether to put chains there or not. Some patterns do, some don't - I expect it depends on the author's tension. You need some in the corner to give it room to bend iykwim.

Personally, I like to use 2 chains in the corners and one down the sides.

craftynclothy · 13/04/2012 19:50

Just to add It's good to play about with the number of chains you use in granny squares when you're starting out. If the outer edges are too wrinkly it means there's too many stitches (i.e. don't do so many chains) and if they curve up/down a lot it means there's too few (i.e. do more chains)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 14/04/2012 11:05

Thank you - I'm just about to start a second attempt, and I think I will try for one chain in between. The one I did had none and I think it was a bit of a stretch.

Here goes........

Thanks

Ooooooh Pistey- look at you!! This all sounds verrrrry brain addling to me. My signature only stitch is treble too. Well, at least I think that's what I have been doing! Grin
How's the granny going? You seem to be flying ahead. Dare I try one I wonder?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 14/04/2012 18:35

I don't know what's come over me Cakey Grin

I hardly know myself Confused

I have made a flower.... just about to put it on my profile. Bear in mind that was my 17th attempt Grin Sadly I was using purple for the 16th previous attempts, could look at purple no more, changed to the green and it worked!

And my Granny is getting there Grin It doesn't look at all as neat as the ones I have seen, but I will get there!

This is the lady who has been helping me in addition to all the lovely people on this thread!! Thanks
