Knitting pattern for DK can I convert it to Chunky wool?

I have a great pattern for a cardi, using DK wool. I would like to make a heavier weight cardi using chunky wool.

Does anyone know if its possible to do this, ie how much chunky wool would I need? Is there a formulae to convert DK to chunky.

Hope this is understandable! And that someone can advise me.

If the pattern is on Ravelry, it will normally list the total amount of wool needed by number of metres/yards, so you can estimate how many balls you'll need.

I think the rest probably depends on the fit of the garment, but others will be better placed to advise. If you knit it as per the instructions but in the heavier wool it will just come out a big bigger all over - you can get a feel for how much by knitting a gauge square and comparing it with what the pattern asks for; you may find that just by knitting it on smaller needles than the pattern states it will come out at the same size. Or if it's a pattern that comes in sizes, help you decide which one to knit to come out at the size you want.

Hope that helps a bit - I'm looking at cardigan patterns right now so I'm intrigued to know what you've found :)
