I sheared a sheep...

I washed, carded and spun the b@&£@^¿ thing and knitted a tunic/ top/ dress thing. I was smug... for about two minutes until it dawned on me that it's big enough for a family of four to live in. I am a stranger to gauge and measuring accurately. Please tell me what i can do with it. After all the time it took to make a mess of it i haven't the heart to throw it out. I will put a picture of the offen sive ding item on my profile for you to have a giggle at. Blush

Obviously i carded the fleece and not the sheep, that would have given a different end product Grin

Sorry no decent photos yet and i should say that i can't just frog it because it's single ply and would never survive (in my defence it was my first real attempt).

It's lovely. Smile

Perhaps a picture of you in it, to advise of course!

I love your stick man!

And yes, we need a photo of you wearing your top/tunic/dress

DonkeyTeapot · 04/04/2012 09:07

I have always wanted to do this! Sadly I am too flighty with my crafts, and jump from project to project so it takes ages to get anything finished.

If you can't wear it and you can't frog it, maybe you could felt it and use the felt to make a bag or something? I know it seems a shame to purposely shrink all your hard work, but at least it's put to good use, if it's not going to get worn or used as it is.

Sorry it took so long to get back, i hate it when real life gets in the way of the important stuff. Thank you Hippy i wish i had stuck to just doing toys Grin. I have put a photo of me in the offending garment up but i should point out that i'm still bigger than usual post DS . I haven't done any felting before but i would give it a go better that than a dodgy jumper lying about being no use to anyone. Would the hot wash on my washing machine be enough?

Even a 40 degree wash would felt it to a degree, but unfortunately it would also screw your knitting up into a little ball in the washing process, and it would all felt together, giving you a very tightly felted useless lump :( I'd undo the sewing up so you have separate pieces (unless you did it in the round?) and do them by hand in the bath.

ThisIsNotWhatIWasAfter · 04/04/2012 13:02

In my wisdom it's knitted on the round I'm not a massive fan of sewing and avoid it when i can.I have definitely learned my lesson about checking tension from now on Sad. If all else fails it can live on as a cushion cover like some of my other moments of over ambition and short attention span

I like sewing, but hate sewing up my knitting! Seams do give structure though, and help avoid large things stretching out of shape, so I grudgingly use them when I have to.

I wonder if it would work if you pinned it to a t-shirt or something? I.e, put t-shirt on, put woolly thing on, and pin them together? This would mean there was a layer of fabric in between woolly layers, so they wouldn't felt together? That's purely an experimental theory and may not work at all.

Have just seen the picture of the garment being worn, it looks like it wouldn't be too hard to just take it in a bit?

iklboo · 04/04/2012 16:24

Now singing 'I sheared a sheep & I liked it'......

DonkeyTeapot · 04/04/2012 16:44

Argh! So am I, now!

kellestar · 04/04/2012 17:15

I have put one of DH's long sleeve cotton tops inside a jumper for shrinking. Safety pinned in place. It stopped it felting together. My machine has a quick wash at 30 minutes so is perfect for felting. You can stop/start the cycle until it's felted enough to use.

HippyHippopotamus · 04/04/2012 19:23

What about if you sew it as if t did have side seams to give it some shape? Whereabouts are you? Wondering if one of us is geographically close enough to give you a hand...

ThisIsHotCrossIWasEostre · 04/04/2012 21:03

Silly name change but definitely not a disguise Grin .I'm liking the idea of adding a fake seam before i do anything too drastic. But definitely filing the t-shirt trick away for future reference mishaps. Grin @ iklboo. Wish me and my tent luck.

HippyHippopotamus · 05/04/2012 09:44

Good luck! Let us know how you get on
