School fair craft ideas

We need ideas for easy/cheap crafts for the school summer fair. At Christmas we did painted ceramics which went down well but we only just broke even due to cost of paints etc.

It's for reception to year 4 children and will need to be something that can be done easily inside when in case it rains. Any ideas please ? Many thanks.

what about planting seeds and selling little flowers/plants? tie ribbon or paint the pots.
painted stones - could have a theme
bake biscuits and fairy cakes
make jam (ask parents to send in their clean empty jam/glass jars)

Have you looked at Baker Ross website?

Our school buys a load of stuff from Baker Ross and does Mask and/or crown Making plus some biscuit decorating.

Thanks for the ideas .Like the idea of decorating biscuits, that's easy so reckon we'll do that one .

The plant suggestion has given me an idea. Do you think we could decorate old baked bean tins (sharp edges filed and holes in bottom), then whack some compost and basil seeds in ? Children could take home and put on window sill. Wouldn't cost a lot as could probably get compost and seeds from a local garden centre as a donation.

I have looked at Baker Ross but that's where it all went a big pear shaped at the Christmas fair so would like to be able to do it using things people donate if possible the more I think about it.

I don't think filing down the cans would be very easy. Maybe plastic cups? DD brought home a clear plastic cup from nursery once with damp kitchen roll and a broad bean seed tucked into it, the seed sprouted, you could see every detail of the root growing and the leaves etc and then we planted it out and it grew taller than her, she loved that and it cost next to nothing, less messy than compost too.

Think you're right about the filing. We could do plastic cups, some of those thermal ones would be good. Or I might see if I can spray paint some normal plant pots and they put stickers etc on and write labels.

I've got loads of bean seeds but thought herbs might go down well with the parents to stick on the window sill. Rather than doing seeds we could do cuttings - just been out to take some of Rosemary and some basil. There's plenty of time to get some seeds going in paper pots as well so they can plant up small herb plants in their decorated plant pots. Project to try on DS this holiday.

Paint squares or triangles to make into bunting to decorate school fairs for years to come.

Planting things is good too.
