I started to crochet 6 months ago when i gave up smoking and was wondering who else on here crochets?

i'm only doing basic stuff at the moment and it might help if i actually finish something for a change lol.

i'm trying to get my tension right but find that the hardest thing out of all of it

any ideas on how to get my tension consistant
cheers
LJ

I sort of crochet too, but not very well! I always seem to crochet way too loosely, so have to go down at least a hook size from the instuctions.

what are you doing at the moment mummytosteven? i;ve got 2 bags on the go (tunisian crochet) and then i've got 2 blankets on the go for the girls which i may finish by next winter lol.

i have made a fab tote bag for myself in double crochet in the round but the 2 bags i'm making at the minuite are for my mates.

i've also got a fab pattern for a cardi for my youngest who has a passion for long line crochet cardis

i crochet. i used to 'borrow' my mum's books, needles and thread and ended up teaching myself when quite young. my mum learnt it off an old lady. when I can remember us walking to this lady's house for lessons when I was tiny.

i recently started a blanket for my dd. I also found a really nice pattern for a hat on the net which ought to take a lot less time than the blankie.

it all started when a friend of mine gave me a set of hooks that she found in the charity shop for £1. I saw the same set on ebay last week for £15 so i think i did really well there.

Unfortunatly i swapped one addiction (fags) for another (yarn) and ended up getting a new coffee table from ikea which has 2 large storage boxes underneeth which is now full of yarn. I'm currently banned from buying any more till i use the stuff i've got

KisKidee how do you keep your tension even?

OP posts:
kiskidee · 02/02/2006 20:36

i don't really know. I can remember it being wonky but over time you just get better. I think its just experience. As this blanket is my first project in years, I noticed that at first my tension was a little off till I got the feel for the hook and yarn again. Stick with it. much more rewarding than fags.
