When do you find time to craft?

Just that really, are you an evening crafter- if so how do you stay awake? Or are you a nap time crafter? I'm a nap-time sewer and as my dd is getting older her lunch time nap is getting shorter and my precious occasional crafting time is dissappearing- :-(

O for more time and energy!

I crochet and i'm lucky because my DC are school and pre school age, so once i've done the school run I come home do the housework and then make myself a cuppa and crochet while watching morning TV.

I crochet in every spare moment I get when the DC are home and then when they go to bed.

I missed it when the DC were little but you will get time as your DD gets older. :)

I crochet, so I do it while I sit with my kids (who are home educated) while they do the learning stuff they do online each morning, then I'm there to watch and/or help when they need it, but I don't die of boredom Grin

I also take it with me when we go to friends' houses/am waiting outside ballet lessons etc./am at a home ed group and am not needed by the children.

I knit or crochet on the train when I commute or I do it in the evening, esp. when DH is out with the boys...I don't mind it when he goes to the pub!

I dont, the last project was a pair of very wide curtains and that took me ages and ages.

The evenings are usually out as by the time they settle its 8ish and I have a few chores to do and my eyes couldnt cope!

Even at nap times (getting fewer) I usually have loads of chores, paperwork and food prep.

Very fustrating but have turned to baking instead.

I don't much ds1 broke the spring in ny spinning wheel Sad . Occasionally i pick up the idiot proof blanket i'm knitting but i'm lucky if i get three rows done before i start falling asleep.

SoupDragon · 14/03/2012 18:08

I neglect my children to make time.

ThisIsNotWhatIWasAfter · 14/03/2012 18:17

Grin at soupdragon. i knew i was going wrong somewhere.

Thetokengirl · 14/03/2012 18:25

I seem to have very little time. I work FT and I cross stitch but struggle to do it in the evening as the light isn't good enough and it strains my eyes. So I've just started learning to crochet. I reckon it'll take me about one week per 6in square! A blanket might take a while...Grin

during DS's naps and in the evenings, when DH is on mandatory child-entertaining shift happily playing with his PFB! Currently knitting a cardigan for DC2 (due in July) :)

mimimomma · 14/03/2012 19:44

Maybe I need to start a craft that is easier to pick up and put down.....I'm currently making a quilt and also have numerous summer dresses ready to cut and sew for my dd, but in the absence of a sewing room it's a bit of a mission to get everything out. (Why O why did I suggest the tiny office should be made into a playroom....when clearly a sewing room is what we needed Wink

At the moment i knit when I'm breastfeeding and quilt when both dc are napping at the same time. This hardly ever happens, so the current quilt is moving very slowly. But knitting is nicely pick up put down. All my sewing stuff is packed away too and it takes precious time to get it out. How i would LOVE a studio.

SarahHillWheeler · 16/03/2012 21:25

Crochet is great. I can do it whilst my son plays (haven't tried it with the homework yet) or watching TV. Harder to fit in drawing or anything that needs 100% concentration, but I am a great picker-upper.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/03/2012 23:17

Crochet for me too, mainly do it in the evenings with half an eye on the TV. I do take it to ballet lessons etc too but as I am usually nattering with the other mums I don't usually achieve much. I rarely do it during the day, even though the DCs are at school, I'm either at work or busy with other stuff most of the time. It is so easy to pick up and put down though and very easy to undo any mistakes made through lack of concentration, so it is the perfect craft for me.

BsshBossh · 17/03/2012 14:17

I knit when DD (3.9) is playing and after her bedtime which is still early as she's young. I quilt and sew more rarely as it's less portable (everything is set up in the study/guest room) so whenever DD is happy to play upstairs (I keep a box of toys in the study) or whenever DH is home with DD or if I have a day off work and home alone (bliss!).

MiladyGardenia · 17/03/2012 14:28

I crochet as well- although in the run-up to Christmas I was sewing and embroidering (is that a word? doesn't look or sound right). Quilting and dressmaking is way too fiddly to do with small dc around I think. If I did those they'd take forever.

I ignore housework to crochet in the day while ds2 is at pre-school and then also crochet in the evening- like WhoKnows says, it's easy to do with half an eye on the telly and easy to correct mistakes if necessary.

stupidgirlNo1 · 17/03/2012 15:43

I do my knitting ,cross stitch, embroidery after putting my son to bed in the evening.I give myself 7-9 in the evening

OhdearNigel · 19/03/2012 17:32

I knit on the train to work. Sewing takes place in the evening as a luxury when the housework is done, the baby is in bed and the dinner cleared away. Caking (which I do for a business) takes place as and when I need to fit it in

FreedomToBreathe · 20/03/2012 22:29

Crochet/knit whilst Ds is doing activities and I am hanging about waiting.
Ds has contact visits to his dad's I mostly craft on those weekends. However, I have a stupidly large list of products that have been started and abandoned. I am intending to get this list greatly reduced this year.

Stitchthis · 23/03/2012 21:16

I also stitch at night. And I take the easy route if possible so I can get things done. I've just finished a yoyo cushion that only took an hour or so.
