We've been talking quite a lot on the main thread about getting the stitches right for a particular square with a lovely heart design in it. You need to be registered on Ravelry to see it here or with the designer's website (also free) to see it here.

The race is on to see whether any of us can complete it without going completely insane at the difficulty of some of the patterns, so we are having a (supportive) 'heart-off' this weekend to try and get it done without flooding the main thread with messages about it.

On the cast list so far are: GleamingHeels, MinnieBar and me, but all are welcome - beware though, you have to supply your own valium.

I've just recharted it to get it down to a size that will knit out to (about) 6", so have chopped out 4 rows of border from the bottom, 2 stitches of border from the sides and 2 stitches of the plain bit between the outer and inner border. So I'm starting with 29 stitches. I'd prob prefer to have 3 rows of border and 3 side stitches of border too, but as the square is going to be put into a larger blanket (unless rejected by our Blanket Mistresses Pistey and Knotty) I thought a slightly scrappy border would probably be okay.

tine = Tiny

I totally dare you to wear it out of the house as a hat, Glaikit.

Btw, I feel slightly bad for not mentioning it before, but someone did their bag with these lovely leaves on the end of the i-cords. I had a go at doing one just to see what it was like before Christmas - my first attempt at knitting in the round and it was a car crash. However, once I got the hang of them they are lovely.

Btw I'm a big fan of the Patons 100% cotton as well - doing one just like this one from the owner of my local yarn shop at the mo! A good price and available in lots of colours too - it's all good.

Ehmm how about a no there Trib!! Mind you, the neighbour walks her dog in her PJs and rollers, they probably wouldn't bat an eyelid! I'm already an oddity because I'm not from round these parts and talk funny!!

I'm going to start with the cream I have to gauge how I'll manage before going out and buying 15 balls of wool.

BarbaraWoodlouse · 07/04/2012 21:13

Thanks Glaikit

tribpot · 08/04/2012 17:49

Glaikit, if you've got two colours, have you thought about doing the double ten stitch blanket?

OP posts:
GlaikitFizzog · 09/04/2012 09:36

Michty me trib! I've already started the single blanket and going good guns. maybe next time. I've mastered the corners now
I've introduced my mum to ravelry. I'm expecting more matching family jumpers soon!!

tribpot · 09/04/2012 09:53

You might want to consider buying up all the stocks of aran wool in the UK, Glaikit, that should put your mum off for a few weeks Grin

Morning lovely woolly types - do any of you know anything about crochet? What do the Americans call treble crochet? I know its different, am trying to find a youtube tutorial, and am all confused Confused

tribpot · 09/04/2012 11:21

Have you checked out Planetpurl, Pistey? I'm totally baffled by the difference between US and UK terms here, does Wiki help?

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 09/04/2012 11:38

Thank you lovely trib - tis a double treble then I'm after.

GlaikitFizzog · 09/04/2012 21:27

One ball in and my blanket looks a bit wonky Confused, I've dropped stitches them picked them up again without noticing ConfusedConfused. I think I'm joining up my edges wrong. Pattern says
Row 1: Sl 1, K8, sl 1, pick up and K 1 st from the side of the knitting (there should be a ?bump? there ready), psso.
Row 2: K 10.

I'm doing Sl 1, K8 pick up and K1 from the edge, then Sl1, and pull the picked up stitch over the final slipped stich like binding off. Plus I'm getting big holes between part 1 and 2 of the corners that look awful. I think I might frog it and start again.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 09/04/2012 21:31

Just to say I cracked it! Sorta, but definite treble crochet going on now Smile

GlaikitFizzog · 09/04/2012 21:41

Envy of pistey "cracking it". Maybe Wine will help!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 09/04/2012 21:47

No envy needed my lovely - all I'm attempting is a very basic square of treble crochet, and it is so wonky! Actually one of the edges looks ike someone has chewed it Grin

tribpot · 09/04/2012 21:50

Well done Pistey! I think the double treble sounds like something an Olympic gymnast would do off the vault and thus vino probably best avoided :)

Glaikit, I had a go at the double-10 for the blanket but decided it wouldn't work for the size of square. It sounds like what you're doing is right, I'll have a go with some of the cotton DK tomorrow.

OP posts:
GlaikitFizzog · 09/04/2012 22:10

Thanks Trib. I'm probably being overly critical, but I keep looking at the picture on the pattern and it looks a million times better than mine!!

Pistey, whatever has chewed your edges has had a go at my corners! It's like the hungry caterpillar!

Back to work tomorrow so I'll be in radio silence until Thursday probably. They aren;t keen on me knitting or MNing at my desk! How Rude! [bugrin]

RatherBeOnThePiste · 09/04/2012 22:35
to say Thank you for your kind words Thanks and I'm having wine now Wine
GlaikitFizzog · 12/04/2012 16:24

Frogged it! But it's looking so much better already!! More woolly wool arrived today!

DS is teething so who knows when I'll get some knitting done though!!

tribpot · 12/04/2012 19:30

Oh well done Glaikit, I've been trying to get my version of the ripple blanket finished - I've cast off thinking it must be quite big by now and it turns out it's about the size of a hankie :( Oh well, will do the baby for a few weeks at least! Pics to follow when I can get the phone back off ds, who is videoing us all at the moment Confused

After that I was going to do the middle few bits of the 10 stitch to see how you were getting on, have you cracked what was wrong last time?

OP posts:
GlaikitFizzog · 12/04/2012 22:53

One word trib ...... tension!! Now I can do the corners without really having to think its much better. I'm still not sure I'm joining the edges as the pattern goes but it looks fine so ill stick to my way for now.

GlaikitFizzog · 13/04/2012 14:54

DS and I went to your old stomping ground Trib! We went in to see the lovely ladies in Nifty Needles! I bought more wool Blush. It's like crack! Once you start you can't stop!

tribpot · 13/04/2012 16:08

Ahhh, good old Nifty Needles! I have a friend who lives a bit further out in Bathgate and if we ever pop up and visit (as I do hope to do at some point) I may just bypass their house in favour of a pilgrimage to Nifty :) Esp as now there is little point in a return visit to the Four Marys nearby!

OP posts:
GlaikitFizzog · 13/04/2012 16:17

Well nifty needles was only meant to be a pit stop while I bought some lunch. we
were then going to feed the ducks but it started snowing so we just came home.

What's the four marys?

tribpot · 13/04/2012 16:45

It's the pub opposite the Palace - or at least it was!
