Knitting magazines

Hi. I'm looking for a good knitting magazine, so was just wondering: if you were only going to buy one, which one would it be. Looking for one aimed at the younger end of the knitting world (the knitters themselves that is - not nursery knits, iyswim). Thanks in advance!

I've bought Simply knits a couple of times. Definitely aimed at younger knitters.

justmummy · 31/01/2006 21:38

Sorry - i think it might actually be called simply knitting.

Simply Knitting would be best I think- Knitting has some very odd designs IMHO (as in, who the hell would wear that). Interweave Knits and Vogue Knitting are my favourites, but they're only quarterly and quite pricey.

Great, thanks for that! I'll have a peek, I was eyeing up vogue but the price was a bit offputting. Would I have to order simply knitting or would somewhere like smiths have it? Thanks again

I think you should be able to find it in Smith's. They sell it in McColl's but I don't know if there are many of them in England (I'm in Scotland). There are several websites that sell it if that's any good. The annoying thing about it is that it is always wrapped up so you can't sneak a look inside. It's also worth pointing out that it's a British magazine, so unlike Vogue, the adverts and yarns used and all the rest of it are more relevant.

That'll be handy, I'm using an American book at the mo and have spent ages trying to track down Brown Sheep Company "Lamb's Pride Worsted", can't seem to get it in the UK. I'm rubbish at working out substitutes. Thanks for the info!

You can often get it on eBay if you don't mind paying postage from the US- it could easily work out cheaper than the equivalent for Rowan! I think quite a few Aran wools would do as substitutes, but Lamb's Pride is very nice

Great, thanks! Glad I found you

You can always substitute similar yarns, particularly if you check the recommended needle size, and do a tension square. Lots of folks on here can help check the switching is right.

bundy · 01/02/2006 14:02

i've got a really hysterical american one with a knitted swimming costume in (hi-leg )

Lulabell · 01/02/2006 14:14

Lol bundy, mine has a bikini with tasteful hearts over the nipples imagine that on the beach hopefully simply knitting is a bit calmer lol.
NQC, thanks for that, I've been trying to find matches and have tracked one down at get knitted. Probably extortionately priced tho as it's also American

Imagine a knitted bikini after you'd been in the water, too

I'll just check Get Knitted and get back to you! It was fine a couple of days ago, but that's not much use is it?

tamum · 01/02/2006 14:37

Nope, you're right- the site is down, Thank heavens I already have my Lantern Moon needles is all I can say

Lulabell · 01/02/2006 14:39

Lol, alright for some what about my lovely yarn. Thanks for checking that for me, thought it might just be my comp. I'll try later
