Crocheters - which blanket would you make?

I'm doing a red, white and blue blanket for DS's bed (as a throw, really).

I can't decide whether to do red and blue squares, bound together with a white border, or the never ending granny square

Which do you think would be better for a 9yo boy?

Lewis - I'm sure either would be fine, I prefer the R&B squares bound with the white border myself though, I think it's 'stronger' for a boys room and it's more symetrical - the other one would annoy me Grin

I"d go with squares bound together for much the same reasons as Chipping.

Also, with squares sewn together, you can make a rectangle which is probably better for a bed than a large square.

Another vote for the squares - but I can't do anything that isn't symmetrical. I was paning on doing a pattern based on hexagons next until I realised the end result wouldn't be a square!

The never ending granny square is an interesting concept but I hate the centre. I hate things that are almost symmetrical but not quite. Also, a blanket made up of squares joined together has less chance of stretching out of shape than one huge granny square

I would get bored doing all those interminable tc shells Blush

So another vote for hooking together squares!

QueenOfToast · 05/03/2012 13:22

I would definitely go for the squares sewn togther; I don't like the look of the never ending square because the centre is too wonky.

Red and Blue Squares vote as well. You can join as you go as well, it builds quite quick attic 24's join as you go technique If you use white as the last round/colour to join with it'll look quite effective. I have just finished one that's all sorts of bright colours with a cream outer/joining round.

The never ending blanket is literally never ending, I got fed up and it turned into a buggy sized blanket.

baby blanket this was the blanket I've just finished, finally got around to uploading the photo's this morning.

I'm doing a throw for my DS and doing granny stripes and I'll put a border round it at the end. It's shades of blue, red and grey.

I really wanted to do squares but DS requested stripes. I've told him I aim to finish it for next winter!

I'd go for squares.
