so I have joined a novice club and it is fun. have been knitting away whenever I get the chance, but I need a bag for my knitting and a 'kit'

So, can any of you superstar knitters point me in the direction of good places to buy wool, other bits of kit I need, (have few sets of needles) and a nice bag to keep all my bits and pieces in?

Mm yes i too need some info on this matter as i want to sew a fabric needle holder roll thing for a friend, and as a very novice knitter I'm not very sure what would be useful, how many needles one tends to have, etc?!

I should make one for myself too, I'm currently attempting my second ever knitted item, a baby blanket by jared someone or other called Old Shale. apparently it looks more complex than it is. (Apparently!) only unravelled it all to start over once so far!

Loads of patterns on Ravelry (ravelry.com). You need to join, but it is free and instanteneous

John Lewis,
Local craft shop

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 24/02/2012 20:28

yes oh yes to the local craft shop, we have a new shop open in our little town and I love it, but she is quite expensive.

Our JL is a bit hit n miss, but I can see that a little trip to a larger one would work a treat. Grin

Ah, the kit... that is easy...

  • Tape measure... smug look on face when others forget theirs
  • Bodkin or tapestry needle
  • Embroidery scissors
  • Crochet hook for picking up stitches... it will happen
  • Spare pair of needles in same size for when you loose one of yours... it will happen
  • Photocopy of your pattern, so you can scrawl on it and make rude comments about the designer's brain
  • Small ball of contrasting wool to use for marking
  • Needle guage... for when other knitters cannot work out which needles they have with them
  • Note book... to note how you have changed the pattern to improve it, as it will not hit your evacting standards
  • Needles a size smaller and larger than you should be using... for when you realise your tension is not quite what you thought it was
  • More yarn
  • Knitting mag... your next project should always be in view to tease you

I think that will get you on the right track...

from the woman who currently has nine tape measures in her sewing box, no I don't know how it happened either...

ladylatte thank you, I love a good list and have been on ebay to drool over lovely wool... think this may be my new addiction.

Patterns, I am only at the scarf stage, playing around with knitting and purling and ribbing and making pretty lines... a pattern is scary.

Next week at knit school we are going to learn how to make holes increase/decrease and 'stuff' so will have to try to look online to see whats what first so I am not a dunce.
