Suggest prices for mosaic pieces to me please

I have booked a stall at a local East London craft fair in a local library. It's in a reasonably posh area bordered by some cheaper areas.

I'm selling wooden trays and the base of which now have mosaic tiles in varying designs e.g. flowers, morrocan style with little mirrors and pictures (house, giant flower and so on).

The trays are a modern light wood (varnished 39 cms x 29 cms in size. What shall I charge? I was thinking of £20 or maybe a bit more. Each one is different. Is £25 too much. They are all handmade (only the mosaic bit is hand done, I bought the trays) by me.

I also have framed mosaic pictures, small and larger flat dishes (suitable for fruit or candles). I will charge a bit less for them because they are smaller.

Any suggestions please?

How much did the trays cost? And the materials used? And how long did they take to do? I don't think we can give an answer until we know the costs/time involved......

Good point. Trays cost just under £4 each, materials around £3 or so. Time to do them varied from 3 hours to around 5 hour for the more complicated ones but I think I should charge the same price for all.

To be honest I'm sure it's a long way from lucrative but I just wanted to know what people would think would be a suitable price if they were in a craft fair. If I say so myself they are fairly attractive as I've tried to choose nice colours and designs. Because labour is so much cheaper abroad than here I'm thinking of the labour costs of it all as free (and I do enjoy making them!).

So, kind of ignoring costs but seeing a good quality largeish item (suitable for a Mother's day gift for example) what should I charge?

Purplefrog, are you still around please? I would value your advice.

I go by the third/third/third rule:
A third for materials/A third for labour/A third for profit

pippop1 · 07/03/2012 22:54

That makes £21 which sounds fair to me. I like that rule. Thank you. Now all I have to do is sell some on Saturday. I'll come back and let you know how I got on.

I got on badly. Took £36 but stall cost £20 so it was hardly worth it. Nice friendly people though. Oh well.
