crochet gauntlets

Is it impossible for a beginner? I am Ok at sewing and crafty type things but never tried crochet and dd wants some gauntlets.

I think i can do the basic chain stitches to start it off but then it seems vague- are there any tips or videos on how to do the rest? Or would it be easier to crochet a rectangle then sew the sides up?

Any help for a determined beginner would be muchly appreciated!

I would find it hard, but I'm no good at following patterns.

the only way you'll find out is to give it a go!

I'm too scared to give it a go!

I can't find any videos or instructions for the stitches in the link- if I knew how I should be doing it I will be happy enough.

Disclaimer- I may be overestimating my ability as I really haven't ever done anything like this before!

Seems very very simple to me.if you know how to do a chain stitch, that's all there is to it really.which part of that pattern to you feel unsure about?

NeatFreak · 16/02/2012 16:36

All of it...
I can't work out how t odo the arches!

Ok the arches are 5chain stitches.a slip stitch joins it to the foundation chain on the first round and to the arch underneath it in subsequent rows.
so step one: Chain stitch the foundation-long enough to go around your upper arm. Slip stitch to join
Step two: chain stitch 5 and slip stitch the arch closed into (what looks like) the 3rd stitch from the end.repeat this until the end of the circle.
Step three: repeat the rounds of arches until the desired length.
Sound ok?

It does make sense, thank you. I think I need to find some more you tube videos to make sure I understand as I really do need an idiots guide Smile

NeatFreak · 21/02/2012 20:22

Absolutely you can make them!
I started to crochet 2 weeks before the birth of my second son and managed a simple blanket after watching a (I then ruined it by washing it but it's a pretty 7" square 'thingy' now).
I did my first pattern (a viking hat) armed only with the pattern, a crochet decoder and lots of quick you tube videos.
I think the pattern you have chosen is pretty 'forgiving' and a perfect beginner project.
Good luck!
Rachael
