Good friend is expecting twins in May. I thought it would be nice to knit them each a blanket. I've spent the last month faffing looking for the perfect pattern/wool etc and still haven?t got further than a couple of experimental squares. Please help me get started!

I can?t seem to settle on an idea. Do I go for just 2 colours and alternate blocks of squares? One colour but patterned squares? Several colours, striped squares???? Colours: can?t decide on colours for life of me.
I am so indecisive. Kids will be teenagers by time I finish it as I am not an expert knitter anyway. Big needles and chunky wool would be good for this project!
HEEEEEELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not a knitter but I had a lovely crocheted (sp?) blanket as a child and loved it. It was in primary colours and striped.

I think bold, bright colours would be more interesting for children rather than pastels. I also think you could get away with all three of your ideas for the squares as it would be more engaging for the children. Variation of colours would be really nice.

What you are doing is a great idea. I treasure handmade gifts. The time and effort that has been put in is always very humbling to me.

this little blanket is knit in DK wool on 6.5mm needles and is very easy but looks beautiful, it is one of the first things I made and finished. They are smallish blankets like to cover up in the carseat rather than a big shawl.

It is from a book available from library or on Amazon, Purls of Wisdom, Jenny Lord

I did a sirdar pattern for all three of mine. It suited me perfectly-all one piece, no sewing up and in repeats of twelve rows so I could feel as if I was achieving something. I did it in differentl weight yarn for each so I have ended up with three blankets of sizes useful for different things. The last one was in all seasons cotton by rowan. Actually as I type this I've come over a bit hit and bothered because I haven't seen it for a while. Hope it's not lost Sad. I'll look up the pattern number when I'm finished feeding dd2, whose blanket it is.

Thanks for the replies...Risskit - i do imagine the blankets as brightly coloured keepsakes so thanks for saying that!!!
Dick - can i call you Dick? That is a lovely blanket I am going to check my library online catalogue to see if i can get hold of the book... Was it quick (ish) to knit?

Ha-feeding again! Will head straight to pattern box after. Got sidetracked by house jobs!

It's a pattern for sirdar snuggly (although I've not used that for any of the three I've done) number 3025. Hth Smile
