I could do with finding somewhere too, have been buying bits and bobs from ebay but would much prefer to find one decent supplier, let me know if you find anywhere!

Get Knitted is my all-time favourite, and they are going to have Lantern Moon needles on the site next week which are hideously expensive but worth every penny. I put a huge list on an old thread, I'll find it in a moment....

my mate who is expert raves about french hens

i am novice and havent tried them yet meself though

The list I did before is split across a couple of posts on this thread .

Here's a link for Get Knitted . There's a fabulous shop in Edinburgh incidentally....

Hi, Sorry to hijack, but was wondering if someone could recommend a really good book for a beginner knitter - easy instuctions, pictures etc. I'm half way through a plain stitch scarf and as no-one in my family knits I have no idea how to finish lol

tamum · 22/01/2006 16:51

There are quite a few websites with good instructions, but if you just want the basics I would buy an issue of Simply Knitting magazine. It has a pull-out section each month with clear instructions. Otherwise Debbie Bliss's How to Knit looks quite good, and NQC taught herself to kot from Stitch n Bitch.

tamum · 22/01/2006 16:51

No, she taught herself to knit, not kot.

NotQuiteCockney · 22/01/2006 16:55

I like Stitch n Bitch, as Pruni says. Good instructions for both English and European knitting. I think Pruni is enjoying them as well.

Re: sites, I've had good experiences lately with someplace Marina recommended, that's in southern England ... I'll see if I can find the thread. The thing is, though, they're better to call, as they don't indicate stock online. And if you're after, say, some bamboo needles, but don't care, really, what brand they are, a chat is much better than an online order.

NotQuiteCockney · 22/01/2006 16:55

As tamum says. Duh.

tamum · 22/01/2006 16:56

Kangaroo at a guess- yes, they are good.

NotQuiteCockney · 22/01/2006 16:57

Yes, kangaroo. That's it.

Oh, must post piccies of latest hat, this no-intarsia, no-fairisle (or jacquard, as madwoman would have me call it) thing works well!

lp259 · 22/01/2006 17:06

Great, thanks very much for those, I'll have a look now , just to clarify - is it really stitch n bitch?

NotQuiteCockney · 22/01/2006 17:07

Yup, really really. It's an American book.

You want Stitch n Bitch, not Stitch n Bitch Nation, which is the second book, and doesn't have basic info.

lp259 · 22/01/2006 17:13

Have just located it on Amazon! Thanks again!
