How big is a baby's waist 0-3 month?

PLease help me and my knitting machine (my mum!!!). We've got a knitting pattern for baby's trousers which my mum has made - she now needs to put elastic in and the pattern doesn't say what measurement/how much elastic. Wondering if someone who has a baby aged 0-3 months could give us a rough idea. I'm 26 weeks pregnant and have no clue! Thanks.

No idea, but maybe buy some baby trousers and measure them :-) x

- here are some baby measurements. The waist measurement is not actually on it, but I reckon there is not much 'waist' on a baby, so I would go for that and maybe put some elaxtic in to make it fit.

Sorry, I didn't quite read your post properly. Just put a knot in the elastic and adjust when baby wants to be in it.

Thanks DutchOma That's a really helpful site.

My DD is 11 pounds and does not correspond to those measurements in the slightest. Sorry to be the fly in the ointment. You are better off inserting a length of elastic one or two cm shorter than the waist as knitted and slightly stretching it to what would be comfortable around a round baby tummy - leave some length, or don't fasten it as suggested above. Babies get windy, sore tummies and you don't want pants that are too nipped in tight
