Removing the lining from a coatigan (lined cardigan)???

I have a lovely coatigan from fat face sale. :)
But it is too hot for a cardi and not warm enough for me to wear as a coat.

So could I remove the lining which is a jersey material do in just left with the knitted cardigan bit?

Any pitfalls or things to careful of before I start?

I've just done it with an alpaca cardigan and was easy enough- the seams inside weren't as finished off as they would have been if they were supposed to be on show but nowt dreadful. If you were feeeling particualry hand you could half unpick it and add some quilting to the back of the lining to make it extry warm?

I might pick at a corner later.
I def can't add padding as I'd neve get my arms down the sleeves! :)

Just a little worried I'll unpick a vital seam! Shock

don't pad the sleeves, just the body. You could maybe use fleece for warmth without the bulk

you won't unpick a vital seam- not on the wool bit anyway as it will be made up seperate. Use a seam ripper or embroidery scissors and gently and slowly does it. Once you've done a couple of stitches then it becomes much easier- pull away the lining to display the stitches and snip through 'em. Hope this makes sense as I've had a hot toddy

Super advice pudden - it was what I was going to do! :)

It is quite a nice neat fit on me round my hips so I don't want to pad it. But good tip about not doing sleeves!

Going upstairs to find sewing box. Wish me luck! ;)

I did it! And it's flipping ace! Grin

Lining came out neatly, and the only tricky bit was where they had a extra ribbony bit round the neck. I cut around that and you can't tell there was ever a lining. I am dead chuffed with it! Grin

Hah! I was going to post today wondering if you were trapped in the lining horror :o)

Glad it's worked
